Hello

we got approved for DCF in Brussels. 3 stepkids of the petitioner (my husband) will come with us to file the I-130. it says we need to bring ‚the beneficiary‘s passport‘ - now Im the beneficiary but so are my kids. Does that mean all of them will have to bring  passports? We‘re german, so they only have their german ID. They‘re 16,13 and 11. Getting a ‚real‘ passport is unusual in Germany as long as you have your ID. Appointment is in 3 weeks, filing for passports takes longer. Would the german ID be enough or should I get temp passports for them ? (I do have an ID and a passport, just not the kids)

thank you!

Well, of your kids are immigrating to US with you, they obviously will need passport for traveling. If I were you, I'd apply passports for the kids as soon as possible, and if they're not ready by the time of the interview, then take what ever IDs you have for them to the interview and explain that the passports are in process. Passports are requirement for the visa, so you'll probably Will have to make another appointment for the visa after getting the passports. You could always call to consulate to ask what they suggest for you to do.

How come you never applied for the passports for the kids after you guys started the visa process?

We asked for approval yesterday for DCF in Brussels and got approved today. I am filing for the passports of my kids, I know they all need them anyway.

We are not leaving Germany til end next year- we file per DCF because of other circumstances and that will take some time. I didn’t expect to need passports til we‘re actually booking a flight. But I’ll get on that right away now. Was just wondering if the German ID was enough... but you’re right, we will give them a call :) thank you!

When you say that you're not leaving Germany until the end of next year, do you mean end of 2019? If so then maybe DCF isn't the best option. DCF takes around 3 months from start to finish. At then end the intending immigrants will receive a visa that is valid for 6 months from the medical. If the immigrants do not move to the US before that time then the visas will become invalid and the process will have to be restarted form the very beginning.

Some of the steps can be delayed but stretching DCF for 1.5 years might be too big of an ask.

Sounds like they have their visa and will be moving this summer.

Never book a flight until the visa is in hand. They will need passports before they can get the visa, since the visas are affixed to the passport.

Their interview is in 3 weeks, so they do not have visas yet.  Also, impossible to have visas when the children don't even have passports.  Passports are required to get visas.

Did your husband file separate I-130s for your children?

How did you fill out your children's DS-260s without passport numbers?

We haven’t filed yet, we do DCF in 3 weeks. We need to bring I-130 and other things but no DS 260 (yet)

I’ll file for express passports so we will have them the day we go there. I was just curious about if their IDs german would work too or not

Passports are required for visas.  German IDs alone will not work.  Germans who wants US visas must have  passports.
