Does your husband have one of the fancy new chip-machine readable passports?  That might make things faster?   I travel on my Australian chip/machine readable passport and the line for those who use the machine thing first then get a quick question from CBP officers is much faster than the others I think.

You can fly to Atlanta airfare is not that expensive and meet her after is clears immigration and customs.

 

My wife arrived via JFK took her over 2hr’s to clear, she had 3 1/2 hr connection but that to change terminals.

 

My mistake was not meeting her at JFK.
