I filed my I-751 two years ago in California and filed N-400, also in CA last year.

A week ago ( 3 days before my N-400 interview) I received a notice my I-751 petition had been transferred from CA to Lee's Summit, MO.  No explanation as to why.

I then appeared and passed the N-400 interview but was told I was not eligible for naturalization until the I-751 had been adjudicated.  I've read articles stating Lee's Summit processing times are up to 5 years.

Question - will my passing the N-400 interview speed up the I-751 process and is it a problem that it was transferred to Lee's Summit and my N-400 remains in CA?

Can you post the 5 year article you saw?

according to popular opinion in this forum, the whole point of transfering I751 to NBC is so that it can become a combo interview with N400.

Your case just casted doubt on the theory, that the transfers were to make combo interviews.

However its possible the theory is still correct since your interview was scheduled before the big May NBC transfer. If thats the case, like the user above said, NBC will send your file to the local office. I would like to see the article you read about NBC processing time though, they just got a bulk files transfer, and while 5 years is too much, I expect some delays.

While the I751 can be unreasonably delayed, the N400 is a benefit that by law can not be dragged too long. Give it few months then involve your senator etc.

I don't have the URL to the 5 year article.  This is what the USCIS website says ("21.5 Months to 46.5 Months Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence -- This time range is how long it is taking your office to process your case from the date we received it"

In fact according to my interviewer yesterday my I-751 file has not even been received yet by Lee's Summit, or at least has not  be logged into their system.  She said the processing time begins NOT when I filed the I-751 but when it is logged in at Lee's Summit.  It's already been two years and not there is the possibility they can reset the processing time.

That's not my question - I simply want to know if passing the N-400 interview will speed up  the I-751 processing.

I saw lots of articles concerning Lee's Summit and many were not good speaking of long delays.  The consensus was that the center was overtaxed from so many other major centers sending their work there.

As to handling both the N-400 and I-751 together, the answer is that the interviewer said she WOULD HAVE handled both together BUT FOR the I-751 being sent to Lee's Summit.  Said she was only assigned the naturalization aspect once the I-751 was transferred.  Finally on my inquiry she said she would have granted naturalization had not the I-751 been transferred and that she could not grant naturalization until a 10 year gc was granted.  I know that's contrary to what others have said but that is what happened.  I spoke to an immigration lawyer, today., and he said he has a client is same situation and Lee's Summit is the field office and his client passed the N-400 interview and they have been waiting 7 years and no adjudication of the I-751 (no interview, status remains unchanged, InfoPass says awaiting processing).  Also said when a file is sent from CA to MO it goes by US mail and often times goes to the bottom of the processing file, i.e. starts the waiting period all over.

We had anticipated having the N-400 and I-751 adjudicated at the same time.  The notice of the transfer came just a few days before the N-400 interview.  My wife was with me and we expected her to be called in.  But the interviewer said from the beginning I was only there for the naturalization interview (which took only 20 minutes).

@Pata1 I just stumbled on this thread and it is exactly what happened to us! Everything you described is exactly what happened to us. My husband had his N400 interview at a CA field office, but because his I-751 is at NBC Missouri the interviewer couldn't adjudicate even though he'd passed the N400 requirements. He said to call USCIS this week, so we did and were told that it's at Missouri and processing time is 36 months. The indication was the N400 would be held up until 751 processed, rather than the other way around which was always our assumption.

Since this happened to you more than a month ago, I'd love to know if you've had any updates since then. We're trying to find out if our file is really just going to languish for possibly years longer than everyone else who filed N400 in 2017. I can't believe this is happening.

They are suppose to adjudicate the I-751 together with the N-400.  They likely will request a file transfer to get it done

Hello,

same thing happening to me ... i751 pending since July 2016 and sent to MO in MAy 2018 to “speed up the process “ . N400 pending since August 2017 and I have received a notice telling me both will be adjucated at the same time but I didn’t get any interview for naturalization yet and if I do , not sure they will give me an answer for i751 . Have you guys  heard from uscis your last posts ?

I’m in the same situation. I filed i751 in Sep 2017 and n400 in Oct 2018. I had my N400 interview on 9/20 and I got approved. I even received oath letter in the mail. I didn’t ask about my pending 751 at the interview and assumed it’d be approved automatically. So I went to oath ceremony only to find out my 751 is still pending and I can’t attend in oath ceremony.

does anybody have any new updates?

This is getting crazy. I applied jointly in Dec 2016 for I-751 and ever since I've been waiting with the only reason being"Pending security checks". Divorced in Aug last year, filled waiver and later filled for N-400 in January 2020. My case was transferred to NBC to speed up processing. I really hope they'll adjudicate both at the interview for N-400, but reading your comments it seems I could still be waiting for years. 😫
