This visa consultant guy says I need to submit documents prior to the interview and that the CO will review them before. Am I being scammed here?

What documents and where would you submit them? You need to complete a DS-160 (the visa application) and such, but this is all the process to apply for the visa.

It's all laid out on the official website: http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-niv-typeb1b2.asp

Specifically: " You should bring the following documents to your interview. Original documents are always preferred over photocopies and you must bring these documents with you to the interview. Do not fax, email or mail any supporting documents to the Embassy or Consulate. "

Edit: For reference, there are some visa categories where you would have submitted information prior to the interview. But this is primarily for immigrant (and K-1) visas, employment-based visas, and other visas where there's other paperwork/petitions needed before the interview. It's not the case for a tourist visa.

I'm applying for a tourist visa from India to visit my brother who lives in the US. Do I need to submit any documents before the interview?? I'm confused.

You only need to fill out the online DS160 form, upload a photo there and pay the fees (country specific). No other docs required. The CO is not interested in seeing any other documentation from a B2 applicant aside from the passport.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. I guess I was being scammed by this jerk! Since I'm applying with my parents, this visa consultant guy told my father that he needs to tell the VO that he will be fully funding my trip or else I won't get the visa. (Even though it's not the truth. I will be funding myself since I have a job and earn)

I'm so angry!

Scammy consultants seem very common.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Thanks a lot for your help guys!! I had one more question. I'm applying with my parents so will the three of us get interviewed together or separately?? I'm a 29 year old female.

I’m not entirely sure but if you put your parents on the DS160 as persons travelling with you, maybe they’ll interview all of you together.

On my parents’ DS160 they are travelling together and they were interviewed together.
