Hello! Newbie here. So a few months ago I filed the i-130 for my husband. We filed from overseas as we are both living abroad at the moment. I got the e mail and hard copy letter sent to me that the case was received and sent over to Nebraska. I’m wondering if anybody has information on this stage of the process? I here that I will need to get together some information on sponsoring him. My parents will need to be the sponsors... but I’m also curious if it’s a form I will be filling out ( the I-864) or if my parents will be on our behalf? Clearly I have a lot of questions. But basically at this stage I have sent in my I-130 and I-130A and am just waiting. Is there something I should know or be preparing at this time? Anybody have RECENT experience of how long this stage is taking them? Cheers!!!

Have you read the whole guide and relevant wikis? I suggest starting there and then searching for domicile issues for your country inparticular.

Really the process is exactly the same as if you lived in the USA but you have the extra joy needing a joint sponsor and domicile issues.

We filed from overseas as well and as of now, you just have to wait...Read about the process as much as possible and inform yourself but as of now it‘s a waiting game!

Oh and the sponsor thing, you and your joint sponsor need to fill the form!

We filed late November and had our NOA1 early december

but I‘m assuming there won‘t be a NOA2 until July

Yeah I have been doing a long of research but I decided to post on here for further info.  So my sponsor is back in America and I am with my husband in Australia. What would you suggest for filing the form if we are in two different countries?

Both the joint sponsor and the primary sponsor (aka petitioner) MUST provide an I-864.  The petitioner almost always provides an I-864 or equivalent.  The joint sponsor, and any household members they have who are contributing, will need to send the form and supporting documents to the NVC and the beneficiary in the foreign country.

Exactly - and OP mentioned parents (plural), so each will need to file a separate I-864. Continue reading up!

Ok thats super helpful thank you.  Just to clarify... I will send in one i-864 and then my father will send in another as a co sponsor... all of my parents things are shared. Can my father add my mothers name to the i-864 or will they need two seperate ones? Totaling 3 altogether

No just the one parent signs a completed I-864 and their spouse signs an I-864a.

Joint sponsor.

You = I-864

Dad = I-864

Mom = I-864a
