Cashiers claim desperate measures

Thu May 3, 8:49 AM ET

SANTIAGO (Reuters) - Cashiers at Chile's Santa Isabel supermarket chain say their employer is so stingy with their work breaks that they have had to resort to wearing diapers to make it through shifts without getting fired

The union at Santa Isabel, owned by Cencosud, one of Chile's largest chain retailers, said cashiers are not allowed to leave their work stations during their shifts, which last eight hours or longer.

"They are not given permission to go to the bathroom and they can't last for so many hours; that's why some have started using diapers or sanitary pads," Marianela Fernandez, president of the Santa Isabel Supermarket workers union, told Reuters.

This is why unions were formed.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

It is absolutely ridiculous that the employees put up with this !

Nobody stands up for themselves anymore and I see stressed out people

all the time who don't even eat lunch at work because "they have so much to do".

My goodness stand up for yourself !

Yes,I agree they should but they might lose the job. I think that's what they're afraid for.

this is America, yes some people have a tough time finding a job but to live

in fear of losing a job and wearing a diaper ????

They all need to pee a big puddle right in front of the manager and go home.

That would give a whole new spin on : CLEAN UP IN 3 PLEASE !

There are other jobs to be found if one looks hard enough. I would rather work

at Mc Donalds and have the freedom to use the bathroom.

The fear of losing a job is nothing but intimidation and manipulation.

Americans are taking more ####### from employers than they used to.

As I said noone speaks up and the manipulation continues all over and in

different forms. 10 min lunches if at all, no bathroom break, no vacation, no benefits,

blah blah........it's all about how much can employers squeeze out of their workers !

I am so tired of that mentality and the tucking of the tail by these people with their

diapers.
