Super fast I485 interview?

We filed the AOS package in March, did the biometrics in mid-April. In late April, the application status changed to "Testing and Interview" - basically we were put in a (very loooong) line for an interview at our field office and told to wait. Today I received notice that our interview was scheduled and a notice was mailed to us. This is less than two months from when our package was received, like a year sooner than we were expecting. Obviously we'll wait until we get the formal notice in the mail, but this is insanely fast (our office wait times are around 12-16 months for the i485, currently). We feel like this cannot possibly be true.

Did this happen to anyone? Could it be a false alarm? Insane luck? Or an auto-deny that they want to get out of the way ASAP?

Any info, especially from those that experienced this, would be much appreciated.

I saw a video where Jim Hacking (Youtuber immigration lawyer) was explaining how the new approach for asylum cases was to make a decision asap so they don't stay in the country any longer if they don't qualify so basically he was explaining that they were adjudicating those asylum cases really fast in the last few months. I don't know if that makes sense but wouldn't be surprised if they take that direction with other types of applications like AOS etc, from their point our view it would probably reduce the "free time" in America an applicant can get while processing the application even if he/she doesn't qualify for the benefit requested.

I'm not saying this is your case but in my opinion it would be a good approach for people with straight cases, probably you are in this category and you will be set in a few weeks.

Congrats on the fast processing and good luck in your journey!

Hey,

You have not filled out any information about your timeline/case. That would help everyone to see what your situation is.

That said this is happening to lots of people, they are testing new procedures and systems since start of 2018, be grateful you were this lucky to get it scheduled.

Interesting to know, I've only rarely found reports of this situation occurring, which makes me a little nervous. Anyways, I guess we'll sit tight until the office letter arrives.

Thanks - I read that as well about asylum cases. Our case according to our attorney is pretty straightforward, which is why I actually feel a little nervous now about why they want to see us so fast. The i485 pass rates seem to be pretty high, so I'm worried they are scheduling the auto-fails first to clear them out (or perhaps getting the easier cases out of the way first?) Anyways, we'll sit tight.

Some cases are just processed faster than others for whatever reason.

I filed AOS last year (marriage to a USC) last January (field office Los Angeles) and received our interview notification on Day 107 (based from our PD) and the actual interview on Day 141.

Our case was not exactly straightforward as I had filed for AOS before via marriage to a USC in 1989 and received an i-551 Stamp for 2 years (temporary permanent resident) in my passport. We got divorced prior to 2 years and I never filed for removal of conditions as I didn't even realize you actually could if you were divorced.

Anyway, our interview was very cordial and there were some procedural questions our IO had that he needed to address with his supervisor. We approved the day after interview and I had my 10 year green card in hand on Day 150. So start to finish our case took 1 day under 5 months.

For whatever reason, some cases move faster than others and we can second guess the reasons and get all worked up about it for no reason. We get worried if our cases take too long and we get worried if they seem to go too fast.

And of course, the status changed back to "Waiting for Interview". And I got about 8 or 9 notifications from USCIS via text informing me of the status update which leads me to believe this was all a technical glitch.

So I guess we'll sit tight and see if the notice actually comes in. To be honest, we're not in a huge hurry to interview as my wife is pregnant and will not work or travel until 2019 anyways. I also don't know how vaccines would work with her pregnancy during the medical exam. But I guess we wouldn't complain if we got it earlier :) Thanks for the feedback guys.

My husband and I filed his AOS package in Mid February, He got his biometrics appointment in mid March, then in mid April we got the notification that we had been scheduled for an interview! Our interview is next week at the field office in Virginia. I heard a similar story of an even faster interview scheduled from someone in North Carolina. This seems to be a trend for some 2018 filed cases. Its funny because my husband hasn't even gotten a decision on his EAD card, and at this point it seems he probably won't get that decision before he gets his actual greencard! Such a waste of time then filling out that I-765 and I-131! Oh well, we are just happy he will be getting thegreencard soon :)

Hi FluffyBalls,

Same thing happened to us. From the day we filed, to the day I had my green card in hand was 5.5 months. Filed at the very end of December 2016 and had my green card in hand by mid-May 2017. Biometrics, receiving EAD and interview notice all happened within a couple of months.

Update: about 6 hours after we got the "Interview Scheduled" notice, we got an "Interview Cancellation" notice on the USCIS website. Got two letters from USCIS a few days later - one with the interview information and another saying the interview had been cancelled. Not a huge deal since my wife does not have plans to work or travel this year. Apparently this happened to a huge batch of applicants from 2018, many got cancelled, some fell through the cracks and got lucky.

Now I'm scared our interview will be cancelled. We just received notice that an interview has been scheduled and we filed early March. I was also surprised at how fast it has gone. Now I'm anxious because I do want my permanent residence fairly quickly so I can start working.

Seems like several things have been happening:

1) Some people got cancellation notices without ever having an interview scheduled.

2) Some people got an interview scheduled and then cancelled immediately.

3) Some people got an interview and it wasn't cancelled.

Have you considered ignoring the interview cancelled notice and just showing up on the original date and time? You might get lucky
