Bottom line - yours and your child's safety. Married or not, if you're living in a dangerous and/or abusive household, you have the right to leave. Tell your husband it's all three of you leaving, or you and your son leaving - there is no in between. Look into women's shelters in your area if you and your son have to leave on your own.

 

Also - renting isn't necessarily cheaper than having a mortgage just because the rent payment and mortgage payment differ. When you own a home, you have a great deal more expenses than you do when renting, such as home owner's insurance, occasional repairs, etc. Don't let that be an excuse to remain in a toxic environment. There is nothing wrong with renting for a while before buying a house, especially when it means being independent and living under a safe roof.

February 15, 2018 - medical appointment                                                                 August 28, 2018 - visited civil surgeon (Winston-Salem, NC) to complete I-693

February-March 2018 - trip to Gothenburg                                                                                                [beneficiary had to get one remaining vaccination stateside]

February 22, 2018 - interview at the US Embassy in Stockholm                            September 18, 2018 - I-485/AOS Interview in Greer, SC

                                    [passed, pending receipt of medical papers]                           September 18, 2018 - case status updated to "Card Has Been Issued/Mailed"

February 27, 2018 - medical papers received by Embassy                                     September 25, 2018 - Green Card received in the mail

March 5, 2018 - visa received in the mail with passport                                          October 6, 2018 - traditional wedding with family & friends

May 16, 2018 - POE in Charlotte, NC
