Why is your husband not doing anything about this? My fiance would not react well to ANYONE disrespecting me or harming me or my son, or the threat of such. In fact, I dont think that would be pretty at ALL. And he certainly wouldnt allow any of us, and especially children, to live in an unsafe and unsanitary home environment.

Why are you living with the father in law and not on your own? Even my 20 year old daughter lives on her own. You dont have to buy a house. Rent an apartment or a house and start saving again. This isnt rocket science.

No, you can not sue him. Yes, you can file CHARGES against him for physical or emotional abuse (emotional is harder to prove but can be done). You call the police when he does something, they come, talk to both of you, and if the situation warrants in they take him to jail.

Tough situation to be in.  I realize you are saving for a house now, but why not talk to your husband about moving into an apartment in the meantime...at least will get you out of the father-in-law's house quickly.

You can't sue someone for being mean to you, or yelling about dishes /calling you names.  You can call the police if he physically threatens or harms you.

Your husband is caught between the two of you---his wife and his father.  So it's hard on him as well (unless he's just a complete jerk over all of this).  Have you told him how you feel about the way his father treats you?  Has *he* ever spoken to his father about any of this?

If your husband is letting another person abuse you, you need to leave him NOW.  He is complicit in the abuse.  Find a local shelter and take your family there.  You have already stated your current living situation is unsuitable for children and to boot, you are being abused in it.

If your husband can't find his balls, find another guy who can.

I can't live on my own, i have husband and a son, can't just go. But i told him 1000 + times to  find a place and he showed no interest in that. We agred to get morgage but now we have no money anymore, And rent is very high here, can't find nothing under 1500 a month, and plus he hes a student loans and we have to pay car loans now, and our health insurance is 500$ and plus all other stuff.... Morgage would be a lot lot less per moth, something that we could afford. I don't drive and we live in middle of nowhere, its basicly a forest, private off road for more then a mile and there is nowhere to go, im just stuck in there, can't even go to a store if i need to. I had no any idea how it was going to be or i would never come. My husband tells me how its his father's house and he is doing us a favor, but i did not ask to live there and i do not want to live there. I get it its his house, but why he hes to be an #######, espacially now when im pregnant? He broke our baby gate that was stopping my son from going in another part of  a house where basament is and office room full with guns that are not even locked. Then he shuts off the heat and propane so i cant use oven and cook. or shuts off the hot wather so i have to wash dishes with ice cold water and shuts off the lights etc.. my life is a living hell and i dont know what to do, where to go??

Yes that is what i meant to press charges not to sue him for money or something. I undesratnd its not easy for his, its his father, but i cant get it how he can just turn into a little worm every time he talk with his father like he is scared of him or something, he should stand up for his familly, he cant allow his father o call me in front of our son so later my son calls me too, its disgusting, he also tough our son to call his  father (my husband) a piece  of .  And yes i am looking for rentals now, but i only found lik 3 or 4 houses for rent and they all all for students and nothing under 1500 $, and he is not helping much at all.

Sometimes when rental ads say "good for a student" (or something like that), it's just a suggestion on their part, not always meaning that a non-student cannot rent there...call the places you find suitable and ask.

NY is one of the more expensive places to live, especially if near the city---will not be easy finding a suitable place under $1500 rent monthly for a 2 bedroom apartment/house, but not impossible, be prepared to pay more is what I'm saying.

Sounds like with or without any legal action you need to move so concentrate on that.

Yes New York is insane, but we dont even live close to the city, we live in some small .... hole not even a country,,, its wildness, so we have to rent in a a town, but people are insane there, they would rent a shed house for 2000 if they could. And if i would look for something in a bigger city like Albany or Binghamton its much much cheaper. :/ Thats why paying morgage its much less. I found some house for 37 000, hopefully its not demaged.

At 37k, it probably needs some work, but it might be better than where you are now.

One thing to mention is if you live in a place where your children are not safe. Child services can remove them from you. Do not give your husband a choice, either he leaves with you or you take the kids and go. Your father in law has it out for you, do not put it pass him to call and make up lies about you being unfit. Get out of there.
