this is completely unrelated, but how could a birth certificate not having a child's name on it? What is the religious justification behind it?

That is like going out for Ice cream but they only give you a cone with no ice cream.

It's not an uncommon thing to delay naming newborn children. Several cultures and religions practice this, some for the purpose of holding a formal naming ceremony, some for other reasons. It is my (admittedly crude) understanding that for Buddhists, it is common to name the baby when it is believed that the baby can hear the world around them, typically around 3 months of age. Local regulations requiring that births are registered within a certain number of days sometimes clash with such traditions, leading to issuance of birth certificates without names on them.

In India, you have to register childs official name within 30 days of birth.

Possibly so, but when did this regulation go into effect? From what I've read, the Registration of Births & Deaths Act allowed adding a name to an existing registration for up to 1 year after birth without penalty, and even later with a nominal fine.

Doesnt matter how much it costs to fix it, its most important document for anyone. I would fix any issue related to bc asap. What if someone has twins with same gender and has only gender listed on their bc. USCIS wants to make sure that immigration benefit goes to correct person.

Yes, my GC had no issues either. according to IO for the N400 she said she needs to use the name in my birth certificate. She needs to link "officially" my name to the birth certificate. According to her it was ok for GC because they can revoke the GC but for citizenship they have to make sure it goes to the right person.

Wow. It doesn't make a lot of sense. You'd think they have to make sure GCs go to the right people, too...

I would to, but that doesn't exactly help the OP at this point: no matter how or why he got into this situation, he's already there.

I am trying to get my high school transcripts, new affidavit from my mom, she is also going to try and go to the place I was born, but she is 70 and not physically capable. we will have to see how that can be possible.

Surely someone can go with her/provide transportation...friend or another relative?

What documentation did you use when getting an Indian passport in your legal name?  Could you submit that documentation to USCIS to prove your name/birth records match up?

When i got my passport I submitted my original birth certificate, my high school transcripts, my parents letter. It was acceptable in India. Even that was acceptable for GC here. well anyway i am not sure if somebody can go on her behalf. we would have to check. the bigger problem is time. Village in India is not very technologically advanced.

Best of luck to you. This sounds complicated. I wonder what the situation would be if mother were no longer living.

I would suppose affidavits from friends/relatives who were there at the birth, or knew about the birth might help in that situation?  I'm sure it's happened before where both parents passed away before the name was added to the birth certificate.

I have been in the USA on a greencard since 2004. I applied for citizenship in Feb 2018 and had my interview today. They couldnt make a decision because my birth certificate doesnt have my name on it. It was from 1975 and has only my sex on it. I had used that and also submitted an affidavit from my father with my name and everything. Now they want my birth certificate with my name on it or a document from the local authority in India that such a document doesnt exist. Anybody else have gone through such issue? Any suggestion on getting such document? I have 1 month to respond but not sure how i can produce this document

Hi Cganesh75, I have the same situation as yours but my problem is my birth date in my BC. I had my interview done last May 7th and of course they couldn't a make decision. I have a question for you - Did the officer told you that they will send a RFE letter? They asked me to follow instructions to N-14? Did you received the N-14 form?  thanks
