Hi Guys,

Long time no talk, I am finally ready to prepare filing for citizenship.  I should of done it long time ago but some things got in the way. A DUI being one of those things, I have finally got that conviction dismissed after almost 3 years probation etc.  In CA a dismissed conviction is the closest thing to getting an expungement.  My first question is has anyone else on here had any issues with DUI while filing?

What are some things I should look out for, and I hear current processing times is about a year?

Thanks guys.

Thanks guys.

You can file online now :) You just need to keep the application active by signing into your account every so often and maybe reviewing the questions.  Otherwise, the application will be closed after 30 days of inactivity.  Here is the website: https://www.uscis.gov/n-400   For me this is far better than submitting a paper application, which you can still do.

Depending on when you intend to file, there are groups on this forum (Progress Reports) and you can see who filed a paper or online application and which lockbox it was sent to.

As you answer the questions the form will tell you what documents you need to upload at the end or what additional information you will need to provide.  In the section where it asks you if you have been arrested, cited or convicted, you will need to include that in your application, and be able to provide dates (when it happened, when it ended, etc.) as well as proof that it has been dismissed.  Be prepared to present that original documentation at the interview.  Dates and places will also be needed for any work you have had or schools you have attended here in the last 5 years, as well as periods of unemployment.

Hope that helps.
