Does the petition ask you if you are on food stamps?  I think not.....

Do you have sufficient income for financial support?

YMMV

Yes. But I lied to get the food stamps and now I'm worried they will find out and refuse me. Do they look into this type of government assistance?

As a USC you are eligible for social programs.  Income or financial capacity is not reviewed at the time of the petition

YMMV

OP was not eligible as they lied to receive the food stamp, so they could be forced to repay it back.

That is a topic not relative to OPs immigration situation.  I just stayed within what this website is about and it's not our place to judge beyond immigration issues

YMMV

Not judging anything, just stating facts when you said "As a USC you are eligible for social programs." when the OP is not eligible for this social program.

Or rather, s/he is only if they qualify

Correct, but the OP stated they lied in order to qualify so am basing my answer on that. Sorry, my last comment on this as I'm going off tangent of the original post.

But I never said anything about qualifying so my answer stands.  What the OP has done is a  dilemma that the they need to come to grips with.

YMMV
