Our NOA date is 2017-04-19. My wife applied for drivers license last year and the MVD issues a drivers license for 1 year based on the NOA date on I797. We went to the MVD again to renew her license, but they want to see a newer document from USCIS, so they can issue the extension based on the newer document.

In reality, there is no other document we received from USCIS after the initial I797. My question is - how do folks awaiting AOS interview manage to get a license and keep renewing it?

Side question - How long is an EAD valid? We did not apply for this as my wife was not expecting to work.

Go to the local field office for an I-551 stamp

YMMV

Hi, thanks for the quick response. What does this stamp do? And is this a walk-in or appointment?

I-551 extends temporary status.  I am pretty sure no field offices take walk-ins

YMMV
