Hello,

I couldn't find a clear answer to this so posting it here. Apologies if this is a duplicate thread.

If I get my green card through Eb1A and as soon as I move, can I sponsor my siblings, their spouses and kids ( under 18) & my parents . Same goes for my wife. I am just not sure if a PR can do that as well or it's just limited to citizens. Is there any preferential treatment if you're a citizen vs PR ?

Hi,

No, you have to be a US citizen to do that. So you are a long way away from being able to file for everyone.

5 years until you receive your citizenship and then you can sponsor your siblings. It's going to take about + 10 years.

So your siblings will not immigrate until like... year 2033 or later.

hi

exactly, you have to be a US Citizen to sponsor siblings and parents. if the category still exists, once you become a citizen en more than 5 year, you can file for them

the wait is from 14 years or more. that's how long the process takes now. who know what will happen in 20 years.

probably your nieces and nephews won't be able to immigrate with their parents

you can file for your parents as soon as you become a US Citizen

You also have to check the income requirements for filing for that many people and consider the health care costs if your parents are of advanced age already.

Siblings more like 15 years plus....assuming the category still exists in 5 years which many think unlikely

....and almost zero chance their children will still be young enough to migrate as derivatives

Ya parents plus at least 2 siblings with spouses and kids and own wife = what minimum of 9 people wanting to sponsor? Possibly more if more than two siblings and more than one kid each.

Does make me wonder of you have thought through moving to the US.

I can understand that you want to sponsor your wife now and later your parents (when you become citizen of course), but also your siblings, their spouses and children??? That won't happen "as soon as you move in the US". You need to be USC first.

Something like that will cost a LOT of money and not to mention the waiting time for siblings, etc. By the time this can happen, your nephews/nieces are gonna be probably over 21 and maybe married also.

wow!

I mean, I definitely understand that you want to sponsor your spouse and maybe even your parents!

In a far away land I can even understand a sibling....but their spouses and kids and who knows who else? Not only do you have to wait till you‘re USC to be even able to file a petition for them ( parents, siblings) but it will also take forever to be done with this...so if I would have to guess....15-20 years...not to mention the cost of all this!

Also, not sure how long this form of immigration will still be „available“...

Thanks for everyone concern. cost isn't a big issue and so is income. Probably finding another category such as investment would be a good idea. Just to be clear, my wife has been approved along with me. I got my I140 2 years ago but I've been delaying it for personal reasons so still making up my mind if I should do it . Have visa appointment in 2 weeks but I'll probably skip it and reschedule it a bit further.
