My husband got vaccinated against the mumps about 18 days ago (at the embassy approved doctor, San Salvador), and now he has been diagnosed with the Mumps! Did he get the mumps from the vaccine? Will this affect the embassy's decision to give him his residency when he goes to his interview in 3 weeks?

Yikes, I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully he'll be recovered then, which means he should be immune from it anyway. I really don't know if it'll effect the embassy's decision. My guess is that at the worst, they'll tell him to get another medical and reschedule his interview for a later date.

Can the vaccine cause mumps?

No

A mumps vaccination is a requirement for adjustment of status after the K1 visa is approved. It is not a requirement to receive a visa.

Once you have had mumps you acquire immunity.

A person who has mumps is contagious for the 3 days before signs and symptoms become evident and for 4 days after the onset of them. An active case of mumps is not a reason for visa denial and by the time he goes to this interview he will be fine.
