J-1 expires, how do I get Working Authorization?

My J-1 Visa expires soon, and apparently that visa is a sort of Working Authorization. So I need to fill in a form I-765, and do I need to fill in that I need a Renewal of permission to accept employment?  And if so, does the American Embassy in my home country counts as a USCIS office? (That's where the visa got issues)

I also noticed in the form I-765 that I need to fill in Eligibility. It said "Who may file form I-765" and I didn't find my category at all. Does this mean that I don't have to fill this in, or do I already have this sort of number, it looks something like this: (c)(8)(ii)

I am going to get married so I am safe to stay, but I want to be able to continue working.

Has anyone gone through this process before?

Thank you

Pretty sure you won't be able to work until you receive work authorisation based on marriage at this point.

After you get married you have to send out AOS paperwork and include application for work authorisation. It's going to be 3 to 5 months wait.

You can you the J1 to work in some limited settings. For instance, I have a friend who used her J1 after graduation for a postdoc. It was the same J1 she had for graduate studies. But as I said, it is limited and it depends on the type of J1 that you had.

If you have a J1 for nanny or something, you can try to extend the J1 for the same program you were in. There are plenty of types of J1 and each one has its own rules.
