College Degree equivalency in US

My wife is in this situation. Jobs that don't require a direct certification of some sort will typically accept the degree as it stands without a major degree of scrutiny. Jobs that do require certification, such as teachers, the foreign degree is scrutinized a bit more carefully to make sure it is reasonably in line with US standards, after which a certificate can be issued. My wife is a teacher so our state will be reviewing her foreign college and university transcripts before issuing her a certificate to teach in our state.

My wife had a degree in Nursing. The State board had 3 options where you sent her diploma for degree evaluation.  I think it cost around $150 to get it evaluated, and then results were sent to the state board.

I am US Citizen I have obtained a few degrees online via diploma mills, I have Masters and Doctorate degree, they sure look good on my office wall...........

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

How do you go about getting documents evaluated?

We had to have the school in Philippines send the documents directly with a seal on the envelope, we paid the Fed Ex fee since it would never make it to USA via Philippines mail.

I went online and filled out the paperwork, and paid for the application fee and provided some basic information.  I paid for express service which took like one week to evaluate since it wasn't that much more.

After they were done they sent me and the Texas State Board of Nursing a copy of their results, basically it said the degree is equivalent to Bachelor of Science degree in the USA.

I have a degree in counselling and addiction treatment. I had to apply for a sit an exam for accreditation and passed that. My degree, however, is not recognised here. I tried an evaluation agency and was not satisfied they do more than look at how long you studied. They certainly did not look at content.

Wow. I wish all degrees were internationally recognized.

When you took your exam... you were then able to work in your field? Sorry for not fully understanding. :/

What was the name of the evaluation embassy? Is that a State thing or national?

if you look up http://www.naces.org/ they list members that offer the service that are state recognised. Specific professions and States would have their own process and places to give you direction.

I wouldnt use ECE but have heard good things about WES

Good luck

There are a couple of agencies that do it, I think WES is one of the most widely used, and the one my husband’s company (big listed company) used for evaluation of his degree. I know there are other reputable ones but not sure of their names.
