some people tend to make thing complicated , that why i stick to the official doc and so far it working great for me  , providing them with what they ask , no more no less

I agree 100% it’s not overly complicated. That’s the best advice yet as I too did as you did and we hours away from VOH! Since that petition is for the Philippines, wedding plans and engagement rings are not needed as proof. You need the affidavit of support I134 pictures chats letters to marry the petition and proof of meeting at least once  during the “last 2 years”. However I do know that there are some countries there are more strict than others that having engagement rings and several visits maybe necessary, but having said that it’s not so prevalent in the Philippines as long as your application is filled out completely all marriages criminal records are disclosed and you should have a clear clean process provided you included all of the other requirements that I mentioned

“Soon after” doesn’t work for k1. Soon before is good though. You should first meet him and have proof of meeting in person in order to get an approval for k1. BEFORE filing.

I think she meant she will file soon after they first met, which is legit!

Although I would reccomend being 100% certain maybe after a second or third meeting but that‘s just me!

Also, if you really do plan on staying there until he gets this k1 fiance visa, why not get married and then file DCF and have him have his greencard after a short period of time which will end up being pretty much the same time frame as if you would wait for the fiance visa

Sorry Yep, you're right I've read it wrong. :bonk:

I also agree with multiple meetings...

I would recommend taking your time and spending as much time together as possible first. As others have said, the K1 visa is not for trial periods, or for dating; it's for people already in a committed relationship who are ready to get married. If you haven't met yet, there is still a lot to learn about one another face to face. Believe me; I met my fiancé online also, and felt like I knew him better than anyone else even before we met. But there's still a lot to cover once together in person. If possible, it'd be good for you to BOTH visit one another; if he's planning to move where you are (which is the case, if you're taking the K1 route), he should visit and see what the area is like and be sure it's a place he'd like to call home, if he hasn't been there already. Visit and get to know your family and friends, and vice versa. It's a commitment, and it is a process, and unfortunately if you change your mind or jump the gun at all, it'll cost you - none of the fees are refundable and if you have to start over for any reason, you start all the way back at the beginning.

I don't mean to come off as a wet blanket - you seem very excited and interested in pursuing this, and nobody's telling you NOT to. Just be sure you are both taking it seriously and are both committed to marriage and long term.

Good luck to you and your partner! Go, enjoy your trip, enjoy your time together, and work on continuing to build the relationship.

Håll ut, y'all.

Just a small thing but - make sure you're actually engaged. You said you want to apply for K1 for you "boyfriend" - this visa is for engaged couples who are fully committed on getting married and understand those responsibilities.

After he arrived on K1 visa, you have 90 days to get married - not to get to know each other. You sound very young, make sure you make enough money to sponsor him and also pay for the Adjustment of Status process after he arrives.

K1

29.11.2013 - NoA1

06.02.2014 - NoA2

01.04.2014 - Interview.

AoS

03.2015 - AoS started.

09.2015 - Green Card received.

RoC

24.07.2017 - NoA1.

01.08.2018 - RoC approved.

Thank you all so much for the replies. It truly helps a lot for me in making a decision. We will meet first in person then soon after I will file the K1 visa. I will do as you say on visiting him several times first and vice versa.

Again, thank you all and take care 😊

Go stay with him for 2-3 months and see if you're compatible first.

There's a high risk of fraud and never forget, once you sign an i-864 (affidavit of support) you have to support him for 10 years even if he leaves you.

I have the notion that I need to come back here to proceed with the visa though, or can I just go to a us embassy there in the philippines and do the filing there?

You CANNOT file a petition directly with an Embassy/Consulate for a K-1

Yes, although "intend" to be married is more precise.

This is excellent advice.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
