Hi, I am new to the forum and just wondered if someone could point me in the right direction.

Is there a thread yet for May 2018 filers of a K1 petition? We posted ours 05/04/2018 and have just received E Mail confirmation that it’s being handled in California with a WAC case code.

I may be mistaken but I thought I read somewhere that California was one of the speedier processing centres?

So so excited to have finally started the journey and we could be together by Christmas!

Also does anyone have any experience of any issue with K1 processing for same sex couples? Anything we need to be aware of?

Thanks in advance!

California is the ONLY place that processes K1 visas, unless they get shuffled around because of backlogs. K1s are generally quicker than a CR-1/IR-1 (spousal visa).

It's currently taking 6+ months to get a K1 visa approval from USCIS. It then takes at least two more months after that to get an NVC number, schedule a medical appointment, attend an interview, and actually enter the country. I was a September 2017 filer, and my fiancé's entry date will be next month! I'd anticipate a timeline of at least 8 months until you're together for good. You can check my timeline for more info!

There shouldn't be any issues for a same-sex couple. As long as the relationship is bona fide, you'll be fine. :)

Good luck on your journey!

edit: you should update your timeline to list your filing location as California Service Center. Texas is only the lockbox. You'll get a more accurate timeline with the right info!

Thanks for the feedback. Timeline service centre updated accordingly. Still no sign of a proper May Filer thread yet though.

Can someone explain to me the process once the NOA 2 has been received?

Timeline?

Why so long for an Appointment?

Recommended paperwork or prep for interview at embassy?

Will I get my visa in my passport the same day?

Is it a physical stamp or paper visa in my passport?

Do I have an allotted amount of time to enter the US?

Thanks

I don't have any experience with this other than seeing plenty of successful cases. The process shouldn't be any different at all.  The only caveat to that I'd say is that every country is different, and I have heard of some 2nd and 3rd world countries giving certain people harder times during the interview (usually around religion). Given that your benificiery is in the UK I really don't think you'll have any issue to worry about.

I did hear of one same sex couple where the US Citizen was previously married to the opposite gender, and the benificiary was asked if they knew about it and if it bothered them as part of the interview but it wasn't a problem and they got approved without issue.

The biggest thing to worry about is the same thing as the rest of us - is your paperwork complete, did you meet all the requirements with enough evidence, etc...
