Sarkozy, has promised to bring unemployment down from 8.3% to 5% - if he can manage that, then he should be the President of France.
If he can muster that - really muster that and not by fudging numbers - he should be the President of the EU.
ya but he has some wacky immigration and ubernationalist ideals... which brings more fire to the actual racial conflicts in France...
Well, seeing what some of the immigrant crowd has started there lately, can't blame the French for voting a guy into office that will do his best to get them their country back. Blend in or get out - that has got to become the principle in Western Europe. And elsewhere...

If he can pull that off, maybe we should change our Constitution and bring Sarko over to work on our budget deficit next. Let's finally end the era of big government, except this time let's do it for real.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

No worries, the actual unemployment rate will not truly go down that much. The numbers might, however...

 CNN just announced it too. I feel sad for the French people.

Agreed. Its weird that for a country which made no secret of its disdain for the likes of George W. Bush and his foreign policies, they've gone ahead and elected someone who is almost exactly the same.

On NPR this morning, it was reported that he wants to streamline France's Constitution. Streamline means bushwacked in French.

I guess noone will be able to accuse the French of being liberal shills anymore. Still...

Or could it simply be that they could see A focus/direction in Sarkozy (even if it isn't the one they really want) against NONE WHATSOEVER in Royal & Co.?

I didn't follow the election very closely but I understand from a French friend of mine that Royal didn't present her case very clearly or effectively represent the French left, so that Sarkozy was able to get away with paying lip-service to its values.
