I have heard some back and forth about this. Is Montreal the only consulate that does interviews for alien relatives? We have filed our I-130 (which I am just now finding out is much slower apparently than the K2?). I am told a medical exam and an interview are coming next. I was under the impression that the interviews could happen at any consulate, but if that's not true can someone explain? Where are the interviews? Vancouver would be nice, but if it's only Montreal then it's only Montreal.

Only Montreal.  Interviews are done by the Immigrant Visa unit and they only have one unit in Canada.  Most countries only have one as well so this is not something unusual.  My SO has to fly to Manila (and spend a week in a hotel in order to do the medical and the interview) even though they have a consulate in Cebu which is only 45 minutes away from her house
