We applied for our K1 back in Jan and I have been across to see Leigh twice since then on the Visa Waiver Program. The last time I went the immigration officer was cracking jokes at how long the process takes. So basically you can travel to the US as everyone else does from the UK, the application to stay doesn't change anything. All I would recommend is that you make sure that you remember to log out when you leave as the last thing you need to happen is to be refused your visa due to an overstay that may not have happened.

Teddy, did you send back your checklist and the forms to the embassy at the same time or separately?

I'm really surprised its taking them this long (what does 'qualified' mean???). When was the last time you spoke to them - and was it by email or phone?

Take all the evidence you can, including your K1 paperwork so far to demonstrate that you are 1) aware of US immigration procedures and are 2) following them to the letter.

If you still have your VWP privileges, use them. Enter with whatever you can scrap together for proof - even if you live with your parents, perhaps have them write a letter about how you help with their mortgage and they are expecting you home on such-and-such a date (doesn't matter if that sounds weaker than from an employer, ever little bit helps).

When you arrive at the POE, answer their questions as asked. Just present yourself respectfully, cheerfully, and openly, and you most likely won't even have a problem. What I wouldn't do is walk up with the fear of god in your eyes and slap down a giant folder of proof on the desk and start explaining yourself and why its okay that you enter even before they ask for your passport. Avoid the "me think he doth protesteth too much" syndrome.

They may not even ask for anything - they wouldn't for most VWP people.

You'll probably be fine.

Good luck!

Yep. That and have the USC call the State Dept. stateside and see if an interview has been scheduled (and perhaps Teddy did not receive the letter).

And I do know that the embassy will generally wait to generate an interview date if they've not received the checklist.

My last trip to the US (POE Newark) almost failed miserably because I could prove no real ties to the UK (my home) after a fairly long conversation with the ####### (immigration officer) he eventually let me in but made it clear that any further attempts to enter the US would meet with me going straight back to the UK (unless I had the appropriate visa).

If your able to prove ties to your home then the VWP is ok, but otherwise your dancing on thin ice.

I sent an email, it was deleted without being read, we ring the state dept and they say "yep, we have everything, just havent done anything with it yet".

I was going to send another email I guess, but if they have everything, what can i say? :-(

Be sure to put your case number in the subject line. They always send that mean bounceback email....

Alot of people now have to phone the Scottish Misinformation line to get that weeks' code. You then put that code in the subject line and they should answer you. If you don't they can delete you, even if you put your case number in the subject line. If you have the code it means you have "authorisation" to contact them.

It's a pain as it costs you money to phone that telephone number too. Bah!

the Scottish Misinformation line

You're calling the Scottish Parliament offices? :P

(serious note) The rate on that line is terrible, and they never have any records or answers to your questions >< the only use is for getting an inquiry number, I fail to see the point in even having it (the call center).

Does anybody have this week's code? I just got a "deleted" message even though my subject was just the case number!

:-(

everyone gets an automated reply saying words to the effect of , you are no authorized to use this email and it has been deleted, but they do read the emails, and you don't NEED a code, but it'll assure that its not deleted, my emails had my case number in them and i got the automated reply, but also got human responses afterwards.

You need a 'code' to send an email?

What does this 'deleted' message say? I was unaware that London was suddenly deleting all emails - seems highly unlikely.

Since the end of last year they do seem to delete emails un-read unless they have this "code". When I was going through the visa process I sent them emails without a code, just my case number, but since then things seem to have changed a bit. There have been quite a few VJers commenting that they get a message saying their email was deleted without being read because they did not have permission to send one.

How do you get permission? Yeah, that's right, you phone their exorbitant line in Scotland. It's seems a bit ridiculous to me, especially if you have a valid reason to email them and no "code". But, that seems to be the way it is going, I'm afraid. Sure, some people get lucky, email them and get an answer without the code, but the trend seems to be that the code is needed for a definite answer.

I've learned something today then - no idea you needed a 'code' to send an email to them. I thought your case number was enough.

And as Oath said, I thought that automated reply was standard procedure - and didn't necessarily mean your email was just instantly deleted.
