Hi!  My husband arrived on his K1 visa on April 18th and we got married on April 20th.  We waited two weeks before trying at Social Security and they said they did not have a record of his I-94.  He gave it another week and they still did not have it, so he gave them a paper copy and they said they had to manually verify to see if he is eligible to get a social security card.  If so, he may get one by mail in a month.  That is annoying because we would like to add him to my account in my credit union and start a financial history for him here in the USA.  That would look really good for the AOS application.  As far as the AOS application is concerned, we really need to get that underway because we need to get him started with working so that he can help pay for the apartment and adding to the household resources.  We noticed that the questions asked if he had a social security number and if not did he want them to get one for him.  I'm wondering how he should answer that question.  This whole snafu at the social security office has thrown a wrench into things, but we are afraid to wait a month to file for the AOS paperwork.  If worse comes to worse, I will work two jobs, but that will really be difficult for my husband's pride to take.  It is not part of his culture for a man to be supported by his wife.  The fact that EAD is taking 5 months or more now is scary for everyone!  We don't mind about the green card taking some time, but we want the work permit and AP!  He just bought a new (old) car and we are moving into an apartment that is going to be comfortable, but we have so much that we can't do or buy because we are starting from the beginning like most newlyweds.  It will be cool when we can both work and buy some furniture and go a few more places (buying gas), etc.  I'm so happy to have my best friend with me to start life with and can't wait to fall into a normal domestic routine.  I'm sure that just having the paperwork filled out and send will be a relief too.  Just as an aside from my questions,  we went for ice cream last night in the country and they had a duck pond.  My husband got so much joy out of feeding the ducks and geese.  He is from Cairo and they don't have a lot of nature there at all.  I have hardly ever seen him so genuinely happy before.  It took so little and it cost a dollar for two baggies of dried corn.  This made the whole headache of the immigration struggle worth it to me.  :)

The employee in the social security office doesn't know anything and always lazy to find out or look up.information .

I had an issue similar to this at the social security office. I ended it by asking the employee about her name  and to write to me what I need to do . She asked why . I told her because I am going to. Call the state's social security office and tell them you told me that to prove to them that you told me that .she instantly changed her position and started looking up information on line and made a phone call to make sure that what I said and what she read is right .  Then I got it done and she gave me a recepit . And I she wAsn't happy because I made her work.
