Sounds pretty random then to me, just the unlucky draw of getting your paper stuck on one of those officers desks...but really they should have had someone covering for them. Not everyone has been affected by this "theory" they are talking about.

I'm not saying that everyone ends up in that pile but what I originally meant to say is the argument that there's been unforeseen circumstances that led to USCIS not processing applications at their normal speed, is definitely correct and has delayed a lot of cases. So even if the whole Hurricane situation is over, there were three months at the end of last year that USCIS has had to work completely understaffed which probably is also a huge factor of more lengthy processing times no.

Not so random I think although when it comes to immigration stuff I always end up being pretty unlucky. First my AOS accidentally gets denied for a no-show, then it is locked up in someone's desk. I was offered that a co-worker would "break into" my IO's desk to get my application so I asked him to do that (he said it wasn't the first time he did that and he can at least try). So I waited and he got my case out of the locked desk, looked at it with all the notes that the previous IO had done on my case and said it's ready to be interviewed and that the only reason I haven't been asked to stop by for the AOS interview is because he's been gone for the past two months to help in Texas. So he offered that he can either put it back into the desk and hope that the IO returns soon or put it among the other applications and hope that another IO will eventually pick my case up to process. I chose the latter option (which was probably a mistake). It took another three months after this for me to get an interview.

When did you apply for AOS? You got EAD yet?

just check OP's timeline....yes he has. Fairly fast actually in 67 days. Most people can only dream about getting their EAD so fast. He can work and he can travel, but wants the Greencard.

Yeah, and I would be fine with that. But if you look at the AOS timelines and filter by my office there are probably 7 people from 2018 who have got their interview through that same office.

I don’t mind the wait, at all, as long as I feel like I’m in a queue - which right now, I don’t.

Same thing here!!! People who applied months after I have already been approved in the same office. It isn't fair at all. I guess that my application has been resting on someone's desk for a long time.

OMG I had no idea! (I can't find the timeline). I was waiting over 200 days for my EAD! I cant understand how someone can complain in that situation.

yup 150 days for me and thus have little sympathy for people who are complaining about not having their Greencard when they already have their EAD/AP and got that super fast. Not being able to work and live a normal life is what sucks. Had to wait 3 months longer than him to be able to work... but yeah... the grass is always greener on the other side.

Yeah the grass is always greener...

It’s not about the EAD/AP. It’s about being in a state of limbo, a gray area between being a permanent resident and not. The fact that a piece of legislation could be signed tomorrow that could drastically affect my life and we’d have absolutely zero legal recourse.

Before the two of you spout off about sympathy, there’s actually a myriad of personal reasons as to why the GC is important to us, moreso than the EAD/AP - so next time, take a step back and realize that despite what the two of you may think - there’s actually more to the story than you two know.

way to be overly dramatic. No legislation is going to be signed that would impact your current status. Before that, A LOT of other immigration legislations would be signed but definitely nothing that would affect you and your case.

Maybe check out the threads from Jan 2017 - March 2017 AOS... plenty of other people waiting for their AOS. A lot longer than you have. Might help you see that you are not the only one. You haven't even waited a year yet. Or take some time off of VJ, that way you don't see others getting their interviews. You constantly have multiple threads going on regarding your wait time. You are driving yourself crazy.

You can say ‘that’s it I’m out all you like’ but you’re the one who made a passive aggressive comment. Nobody started out with the intention of arguing, so why say stuff like ‘I have little sympathy for...X’?

anyone going through an immigration process should be well aware that each situation is highly personal, and there’s more to what you read on here. I’m not just whining because my GC is taking as long as it’s taking. I’m complaining because I wake up every day wondering if that day will be the end of the state of limbo, and as of late - it never is.

Now it makes sense why we filed for adjustment of status in January of 2018 and got an interview in March of 2018!!!! The day of our interview we had a major snow storm and we missed it, so we had to file papers justifying our missed appointment. I now fear the worst.....WAITING a LOOOOONG time for a reschedule...Thanks for the info on AOS and times. BTW, you're filing part of the country has some bearing on the wait time as well.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks everyone.

My understanding regarding rescheduling is that the offices are usually fairly accommodating so perhaps you’ll hear something soon.

Glad to hear you finally got your interview notice. Good luck!

Yeah I guess that makes sense to a degree - but wouldn't those older AOS applicants already have work authorizations approved anyways? We've had our EAD since September 2017, there's no good reason at all that someone who files for AOS in February 2018 should get their GC interview, through the same field office, before we do.

I read your timeline. I see that you got an RFE with your AOS. You obviously responded to that. Did you hear anything about the RFE after that?  We have been waiting since early June of last year. It took 140 days for EAD. Since then, nothing!

The last update on our I-485 was ‘USCIS received your response’ back in August, since then no case updates online but a tier 2 officer did tell me my status has been ready to be scheduled for an interview since September.

How are you in a limbo more than anyone else here?
