Hi all. So my interview was scheduled for June 6th (yay!) and on the appointment letter it has a whole list of stuff to bring. I'm assuming they want to make sure you bring a copy in case you missed something when sending in the packet, but I still have a couple questions.

1) It asks for a certified copy of our marriage certificate. I sent in a photocopy because everyone said it was fine. Should I take the original?

2) I have a cosponsor and they ask for a letter of employment. Do they need an updated one or can I use the old one? I filed in end of January so in my opinion, it's still pretty current. They also want proof of their citizenship so same question as above regarding the original or a copy.

3) Since my wife hasn't gotten her Green Card she hasn't gotten her license here so I can't have her on my insurance.

We haven't even been married a year so we don't have a lot of proof via paperwork. We do have a joint bank account though and I filed 2017 taxes joint but I want as much proof as possible. I still live at home so I don't pay rent in the traditional way. I just help my mom on an as needed basis with bills. Do you think it would be a good idea to get a basic rental agreement or lease with both of our names on it?

And lastly, how many letters from friends family should I include?

Thank you for all your help!

Bring originals of all documents you included in your application, just in case they want to see them. They probably won't ask for them, but better safe than sorry.

The officers understand that newlyweds do not have a lot of comingling of finances yet. I had received my EAD 6 weeks before my AOS interview, and that's when it made sense to us to open a joint account, and I signed us both up for insurance through my job. All the evidence we brought to the interview, were a statement of our joint bank account and our insurance papers. No pictures or affidavits from friends or family. Of course, you can add those if you feel it'll increase your chance of approval, but again, they understand that you got married recently and have just started building your life together.

Good luck!

1) yes

Letters from friends and family are last resort type of evidence.  I submitted zero

YMMV

Thanks for the replies. Should I ask my cosponsor for an updated letter of employment?

I also realize we didn't have 2017 taxes filed for January. Should I ask my cosponsor for this too?
