Hey guys, quick question: Does anyone here know if you can change your name after you've started the AOS process while waiting for it to process or do I have to wait until it's all done to change it? I just wanted to send AOS out as quickly as possible so I didn't want to wait to change my name but my military ID was issued in my married name and now I feel like I need to change my name ASAP.

Of course you can.  You just need to get the GC re-issued in the new name after you receive it

YMMV

This is definitely a huge topic.whatever name you fill out the forms with, is the name they will print on your gc. I filled out the forms with my husbands last name based on everything I researched otherwise you will pay around $450 to have it changed afterwards if I remember correctly. Uscis has instructions on it on their website as well.

Hmmmm.... can I apply for a name change on my aos while the aos is still pending without having to pay those change name fees?

I don’t think that’s possible but please Research it with uscis and here on visa journey. Don’t go based on my word. Like I said this is a huge topic and it’s been asked many times so you may not get an accurate answer right away on your own thread. I did what I did because I read that you should use whatever name you want to appear on the gc at the time you’re filling the forms. There was a lot of talk of additional fees and paperwork after the fact because people thought they could change the name afterward or they just changed their mind about the change. My friend just left her maiden name on there as is and didn’t change until she did her citizenship but she wished she did because of traveling with her son.

Yeah, absolutely I will and have. Thanks for replying. It’s so time consuming to get your name changed in WV that I didn’t want to wait. It didn’t even cross my mind that would cost, but again everything is costly with USCIS and I shouldn’t expect any less. I wasn’t even gonna bother with the name change now but then the army issued my ID under my married name so now I’m stuck.
