has anyone ever ever used a photo of beneficiary passport photo that was scanned?

If it is the right dimension and meets all the criteria but it should be a clean crisp image and a scan may not give you that.  The photo is also suppose to be less than 30 days old at the time of filing

YMMV

The image must meet the regular passport requirements.

  • In color.
  • Printed on photo quality paper.
  • 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) in size.
  • Sized such that the head is between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches (between 25 and 35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head.

If the scanned image meets all of those, you should be fine, but most people typically get it done professionally to avoid any photo-related RFEs. That said, plenty have done their own copies and have been fine.

The other stipulation is that it must be within the last 30 days. If you're scanning an obviously old photo or one that has been used elsewhere (like in the passport), they'll know it's greater than 30 days old.

I suggest that you ask F to take couple photos on a white wall with a good phone and send to you, you can then do some magic to crop on the rigth dimensions and  put 4 on a 4x4  jpeg file and print out  on a 4x4 size, that you can do on a photo center like Walgreen Photo Center.

I little trick but doable, it may save on time.. :)

they have to be 2x2, not 4 x4

Yes, but a 2x2 photo, stacked 2 over 2 is 4 x 4 piece of paper

YMMV

yes.... in a 4x4 print out you will have 4 photos, one in each corner, all you have to do is cut it, send one and keep the other 3 in your wallet. :D:D
