And they won't tell you who the 3rd party is?

Legally, you are past the maximum amount of time they have to render a decision for the N400.  That being said, most you can do at this point is either get your congress person involved and have them inquire with USCIS on your behalf, or prepare a writ of mandamus to force them into making a decision.

Contact your senator or congress person and have them make an inquiry on your behalf to USCIS.    They are normally very helpful in moving things along when one is outside the normal processing time.

Would you telling what criminal record you have?

It doesn’t matter how long ago, it depends what kind of conviction it is.

speeding ticket

A speeding ticket is not really a criminal record.

A criminal record involves being arrested and convicted of a crime. Speeding is a minor offense unless you led the LAPD on a high speed chase.

A writ of mandamus isn't used for an N-400. Instead, it would be a lawsuit under 8 USC 1447(b).

You can do this 120 days after your interview if there hasn't been a decision.

If you mentioned speeding ticket on your application than its not an issue. Your application might still be in security check due to they find a new information that doesn't match current given information.

God knows what is the case, no one will tell you the what is the reason beside " Security check still in progress ".

You have 2 choice,

1- Just chill and just keep waiting.

2- File law suit.

I will choose option one, unless US passport is the only way you can travel.

Hope you hear a good news soon.

Hire a lawyer to file it for you, or file it pro se (yourself).

Curious how long you will continue to wait, as you've waited a year now for them to render a decision (to the point, legally USCIS must take no more than 120 days from the interview date)?

Your choice, of course---other options have been outlined in this thread.
