Trying to fill out form DS 2029... there were two occasions when I entered the US from abroad and then traveled around  within the US for a week to a couple of cities in hotels before eventually going to my city of residence. Do I need to list out those two one week stays with locations as well? Can I just leave the one-week stays out?

They are not concerned about temporary movements but your primary residence

YMMV

Well, the first time I entered the United States, I did not have a primary residence.. I stayed in a hotel in one town for a week and then ended up living for the next five years in a nearby town.. do I at least need to list that one week stay, or just leave it out?

I would show the entire stay as the place that became your perm because during that one week you were "house hunting"

YMMV

Actually, for CRBA purposes, they are interested in every day you were physically present in the US -- it's not about residence, it's about presence.  You should fill it out as accurately and completely as you can.
