Thanks.

We've been able to see each other about every four months on average (this one's going to be five, so we miss each other a lot), and this will overlap the one-year anniversary of our first in-person meeting. Hoping at the next meeting after this one she has her interview scheduled, but in Moscow, who knows?

I know you must be super excited that is a very long time and this process is a endurance test so have fun!

Hi sarge how are you? Fall is too but in Miami it’s always summer I do miss the season changes at times. Yes we have about two months left and we should hear something, God thanks!

Hi guys! I would like to ask if income tax and 1040 are the same. Thank you so much :)

IRS form 1040 (or 1040-something) is the standard US federal income tax form. Which is usually what they'll ask for as part of documenting income.

Income tax is what you pay and IRS form 1040 is the form you file each year to determine your income tax or what you owe.

If you need the 1040 for your Embassy interview the IRS transcript is excepted and a lot easier to use. It's about 2 pages as opposed 265 pages of the 1040 (just kidding) most tax forms are about 20-25 pages printed. you can get the IRS transcript on the same day from here https://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript

Does the Clearance have to be within a certain time period of the interview?  I believe the medical check does..

I also saw in another thread that for those of us with Canadian beneficiaries, they may require a different clearance now (as of September).

Holy ####### - thanks for mentioning this and leading me to the updated info. My beneficiary is about to go get his cert any day now and we definitely would have got the wrong one. Thank you!!!

I believe Police Clearance’s validity is only 6months.. You may consider getting one before(depending on the country’s specific requirements) noa2 and making sure that it is still valid before your scheduled interview.

Please verify this with your Embassy as some require a PC not be older then 1 year from another country (if you have not returned since the date issuance of the PC) but here is the general rule as outlined by DOS. It references NVC but the information they are using is for an immigrant visa and not the non-immigrant but both are true.

ImportantPolice certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

  • You are more than 16 years old;
  • The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
  • You still live in the country that issued the certificate.

For country-specific guidelines on how to obtain a police certificate, review the Country Documents section at Reciprocity by Country.

Unobtainable police certificates

If your police certificate is unavailable per the country-specific guidelines above, you do not need to submit one to the NVC. If you cannot obtain a police certificate for another reason, please submit a written explanation when you submit your other documents.

Just joined VJ recently as I have been patiently and inpatienly waiting... I wish there was a faster way of being with your loved one without having to wait so long. Nonetheless, it's worth it in the end. Quick question, USCIS website says 5-7 months but it's rare for a petition to be approved in 5 months right?

NOA1 received May 31, 2018.

NOA2: hopefully soon?

Yes, it's rare. We have been seeing some at 185 days but most are 225 or more. But like everything else they are all over the board with approvals. So many factors we are unaware of so it's hard to predict a timeline for you. If you want to see when others who are close to you from your Embassy then use this useful tool. This works for everyone from any country.

Use the tools here in VJ to answer "when I am going to get etc. etc." question. Near your picture there is a link for your timeline. Select it and once you're on the next page near your picture  you will see "follow similar timelines" and it will populate 12 other couples who are near your dates. Scroll down and you will see a "spreadsheet" style page showing all the variables for measurement for when others are getting the same notice of approval or action.  Try it. It really works!

I followed those that were in my group to give me an idea where they were in processing so I could judge if I was ahead or behind.  It's pretty accurate, maybe within a day or so.

If you choose to follow those twelve members then you will get an email every time their status updates.

You know something? @debbiedoo understands this process and has given you advice that is real in a realistic world but you are already trashing them. There is nothing you can do for 4-6 months. I know, I've walked a mile in your shoes and I have been helping folks just like you to work through the system.  If you don't like our help just use the VJ ignore button.

Here is what you do to keep your anxiety down.

not my style (unless they become abusive or more of a jerk than even i'm accused of being ;)  ) there will always be people who dont want to hear blunt honesty. i may be blunt and direct in my delivery, but (to my knowledge, lol) have never given bad advice on here, and am quick to say thanks when i AM corrected on a fact or procedure.

we're all waiting, here (or have done their time waiting, lol). It sucks. we can all agree on that. but dwelling on it and obsessing over it, doesn't make the time go any faster.
