Well it's offical my case is stuck in the mire of background checks 213 days today  with no end in sight. Called spoke to a T2 agent  he said he saw nothing  bad in my file just waiting for ALL the background checks to come back. That really depresses me because there are people  waiting for background  checks a year later. This is where the pessimist in me really comes out now. I already  know what the result of the online inquiry will be either still processing  or awaiting background  checks. Yes my name is common but that's  why we have  a SSN plenty of people with common names are approved. At this point nothing I can do!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your help; appreciate it.

I just talked to tier1 and she said she will transfer me to tier2 after that the line started making weird peeping it's like for the people with special needs, it stayed like that for about 15 minutes so I hang up. Is that ok and I have to wait more? Can I talk to tier 2 on Saturday?

Thank you.

They are open Monday - Friday 8am - 9pm eastern

This is BS. I wish it was possible for you to just send them your DD214 and a print out of whatever security clearance you had when you served. It's nonsense how we have been background checked over and over and very extensively yet you can be held up on a "background check".

My secret clearance did not even take as long and you know they background check for those. But it is what it is no use crying over spilled milk. My approval can come at any day or not for many months, what a way to go on!!!!!!!

Hang in there Sarge. I know how you feel... this year I've become the professional waiter - between processing an NFA item (7 months and approved), foreign driver license (8 months and 3 redos bc I looked younger than my file photos, and the foreign agency requested updated photos over and over, finally approved), fingers crossed that this process is almost there for both of us.

Of the 3 waits, the driver's license wait was the worst for me because I didn't have any confidence that it would ever happen, not every government body is as "by the book" as the US and thus my trust in the process was very low. It was like being a teenager all over again bumming rides or taxis to do anything.  The other 2, I knew/know the outcome, its just a matter of "how long".

Keep the hope up!

The recording will tell you the best times to call are Wednesday through  Friday 8am to 9pm eastern time. After you listen  to the status of your case in order to speak to a CS rep youll have to push the number 3 if I recall correctly to report  a problem with your case, then youll be placed on hold according to their work load.

Hi everyone,

Been following this thread since May. All of your stories have been inspiring and really helped me out in times of anxiety.

My fiance is from the UK and we applied for the K1 in May.

Our timeline so far:

NOA1 May 9th, 2018

RFE December 8th, 2018 (No update on website, email, or text -- just mail)

Will send our response back ASAP (10th or 11th) -- it is  asking for proof of my citizenship and to confirm we did not meet through a marriage broker. We must have left these things out of the application, we reviewed it so many times but I guess it's possible... Just looking to connect with other people in this boat who might be kicking themselves for making a mistake in the application that's extending their already arduous wait.

Also stressing a bit since we just sent out the save the dates for our "celebration" of our marriage in England next October ,  2019 -- we thought this would be more than enough time for my fiance to get his green card, or at least apply for parole, to be able to leave the US, but now I'm reading stories of RFEs taking months to process and freaking out that we won't be able to get married until next May, maybe...

Any consolation is appreciated, I can't keep my head straight and I don't know what to think anymore. Wishing you all the best in these stressful, lonely, uncertain times.

RFE's for K-1's are generally processed pretty quickly and yours sounds like it an easy one.  Normal processing time is 60 days and most get resolved much sooner than that . I have seen as few as 5 days but have also seen other cases of it taking months.   Again  with USCIS anything is possible and nothing is guaranteed in this process.  And I am sure you have heard never make any plans which are non-refundable when going through this process.

If it takes 60 days you will have NOA2 by Feburary, a few weeks to get to NVC, then 2-4 weeks to transfer to embassy.  You shouldn't have any issues at NVC unless USCIS forgot to give the approval stamp on your petition or if you missed a question and the adjudicator doesnt catch it at USCIS.   If that happens and its very rare, you can add on a few months.

Next, you need to check London embassy and see how accessible their appointments are.  After interview another week to get passport back.

Then make POE and depends on how quickly you get married and then add on 3-5 months to get AP after you file for AOS

USCIS says normal processing time is 60 days.

However, for K-1's most are responded to pretty quickly - less than 30 days.

I think mine was 1 week I have seen that from many other VJ members as well.

Just depends on when your adjudicator looks at RFE's - some do it immediately - some do RFE review on  a certain day of the week.

Some might be on vacation when your response comes back.

So many variables.

Either right when they open first thing in the morning or in the evening prior to them closing. Those times usually have the shortest wait times.
