Mrs. T-B. has done this, and our kitchen ants are eternally grateful.

On the subject of ants, I remember years ago spilling a pack of aspartame sweetener and watching a line of ants make a huge semi circle in their path to get around it. They wouldn't go near the stuff. I remember throwing the box away and thinking that's all you really need to know about aspartame.

Truth.  I've seen the same thing with a lollipop.  Artificial sweeteners,  and they marched right around it.

I was on guarding duty on the tower and there was some juice someone spilled and a bee came and started drinking right next to me, I was just watching it for quite a bit till it decided it had enough and flew away.

Who got past the tower while you remained so fascinated?

It's vile -- not on a level with cilantro, but solidly ranking.

On the subject of ants

The Spanish word for ant is hormiga (silent h).

The term for fire ants (I presume) is hormigas del fuego, another clunky term in comparison with English.

Mrs. T-B. gets irritated when I ask "How many people get bitten during the time it takes to warn them about hormigas del fuego?"

Cilantro actually helps the body to get rid of toxins. Sort of the opposite of aspartame if you think about it.

I don't like the taste of cilantro either, but I do chop some up in salad whenever I make it. You can't really taste it that way.

  Did you see your doctor?

I eat yogurt most days with breakfast. Nutritionists generally say healthy gut flora is one of the most important things you can have for good health, and with all the exposure we get to antibiotics and other chemicals in our food that alter our gut biome, it is probably a good idea to eat some prebiotic and probiotic foods every day. Doesn't have to be yogurt, but yogurt is pretty easy as long as you can handle lactose.

don't know if you've recently run a course but any time you're prescribed an antibiotic you should take a probiotic for a minimum of 30 days. i just drink a cup of kefir every morning. http://lifewaykefir.com/family/kefir/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIk43_tOuF2wIV0EwNCh1Bqw1qEAAYASAAEgIiDvD_BwE

There is growing evidence that probiotics can provide antibiotic-associated diarrhea (diarrhea that comes with a course of antibiotics), and can prevent C. diff, though someone on an outpatient course of antibiotics is at a pretty low risk for C. diff (more important in the hospitalized population).

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29511547 - AAD - All patients

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26695080 - AAD - Pediatrics specific

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29257353 - C. diff - Both children and adults

I'm not familiar with a lot of studies looking at its benefits after a GI illness where antibiotics weren't prescribed. One could assume that just having significant diarrhea can clear out your intestinal flora and so it may be helpful to help "rebuild it" but I just don't know if it's been looked at.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28185664 - This systematic review covers it but I can't seem to get it in English (it says it is available but I get spanish when I try)

This is a "buzz-worthy" topic so there is a lot of research coming out quite frequently. I'm more familiar with the data for neonates since that applies to my practice. There is a lot of money behind research in this topic also because probiotics can be easily marketed and sold in stores and people naturally like them more because they can easily be seen as "natural". The field is likely rich with potentials for bias.
