Is affidavit of support from sponsor necessary to sponsor parents?

If sponsor parents to live in USA, is affidavit support from sponsor necessary?  Or can the parents qualify themselves financially by showing a specific amount of funds?

You're SPONSORING parents. Of course you need to fill the sponsorship paperwork..

Also note that assets for a parent need to be at least 5x the income level. The CO make the final call on the public charge concern. If the parents are not of working age, they may want to see evidence of how their healthcare will be covered since they won't qualify for most public aid for at least 5 years. Healthcare / insurance for elderly parents obtained outside of employment is extremely expensive.

There’s a lot they won’t ever qualify for in terms of social security and Medicare even as citizens if they don’t ever work in the US and therefore do not contribute to social security or Medicare taxes. (They can still get Medicare but at what could be quite steep premiums.)
