Yeah, maybe I should have included a cover letter with our packet. We put our travel date as September 1st, because we need to take care of a lot of stuff before the wedding, but they haven't taken that into account. I asked on the DoS line if they take that into account, and they said no, that I just have to wait until they schedule everyone else's and see where they can fit mine. I emailed them again about it, but is it also worth calling do you think?

Well, if it was me, I would be calling. They seem to be trying to be as accommodating as possible, so I would give it a shot. You've got nothing to lose but 16 bucks, which is chump change in the whole scheme of things.

Well, trying to find flights....I'm getting 1400, a little expensive. I could drive down to San Fran and get a much better deal, but I'm guessing we will be having a few cocktails on the journey home, so thats not a good option. Anyone have a good website to recommend? My step dad had said that he would use his frequent flier miles to get me a flight, but I am just trying to cover all ground if he can't get me one.

My step dad had said that he would use his frequent flier miles to get me a flight, but I am just trying to cover all ground if he can't get me one.

SFO's not tremendously better than that anyway - I haven't found much difference between the main airports and the regional ones requiring lay-overs, etc. Summer is just a bummer for travel plans, if you want to save money, that is.

Calling isn't necessarily going to get them to take action, though they can tell you what (in)action's been taken. Have you tried contacting your member of congress? Might help. Might not, but worth a shot and it's free. You may very well still get your dates as needed. You put down a specific date which is good. And it's still not too late in July. You could get an August interview date - especially since the latest interview date we've seen was early August, right?

The DOS line is great about reading the information the Embassy enters into the computer, but they don't know the particulars for each Embassy in most cases (ie: they didn't know the londonconsular@ email address existed, nor did they know anything about an emailing code). They are good at what they do, so long as you don't expect the world of them.

I'd call a congressman and see if that office can send a request on your behalf.

All I can say is good luck. We scoured around for a while - rates barely ever changed much at all. Once we accepted the fact that we'd be hard pressed to find anything much below than $1200, we then had trouble finding open seats on his connecting flight (go figure) for the date he originally wanted, so we had to push it back a few days.

Rates don't really start to tumble until after Labor Day.

I just called the DOS - our interview date is Aug 8th at 10:30!! The letter was posted today. So exciting!
