Is there some reason why I keep getting the "Our office is closed message" when calling DoS? Do they have a lunch break or something? They keep telling me to call back Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm, but it's now 11:20 am there on a Wednesday. :wacko:

Haaa. Well, at least you didn't call on the 4th of July, knowing FULL WELL that of course they would be closed, but due to extreme neurotic tendencies just HAD to call anyways expecting to hear a message of "We are closed for the holiday". But instead heard "Your expected wait time is 10 minutes", then stayed on the phone for 40 on hold before finally giving up and hanging up the phone, cursing up a storm!!!! IDIOT!!!! Uh hum, but to answer your question, no I have no idea. DRRRRR.

That happened once to me too. I don't know if it's an overwhelmed phone system or what. It eventually was back online by, I think 10am Cali time when I experienced it. Random.

As for the above question about the secret code - that's a code that the toll line (scotland DOS info line) will give out (when it feels like it) that you supposedly need to get a real answer from the embassy using the embassy email address.

Except that there are about 1000 different experiences people have with trying to email. Most everyone gets the "Deleted without being read" auto reply. Some get a real answer. We emailed once without the code, once with the code, and never got any sort of reply at all. Others without the code have received replies. Who knows. But the code can't be obtained from the US line.

Ahhhh, thank you Miss Daisy. Hope things are coming along with the big move, as well as wedding plans!!!

fantastic!! Glad you're making the trip, psho! Perhaps you guys will run into Dan when you're there. Also, I, too go the deleting of the email response, but kept resending like 3 or 4 times. This was before I knew of the secret code word. I just assumed that they didn't have our case in the system, and when it got there, they would accept it. HA! Guess they got tired of my resends, so they did finally respond that our case was, in fact, there.

Yeah - as Daisy said - gotta call extortion line to get it. I'd love to share it, but what I have will do you no good. It changes weekly.

Well, after calling them back for like an hour and a half, I guess they decided to open again. I guess we still haven't "qualified" for an interview date. I'm not so concerned about the date being super soon, I just want to know when it is. It's the not knowing that drives me crazy! :wacko:

And I still can't get my email to the Embassy to go through. I've tried multiple times over the last few days, and it's always deleted without being read. Frustrating!!

I have a memory of the DoS being shut for a few hours (??) every Wednesday. I think it was part of the loooooong opening menu message, that we learn to skip over to speak to humans.

Yeah, something in my head says I read or heard about Wednesday and closures . . . . though the line WAS working by around 12:30 today because I called and talked to Tiffany's Good Luck guy.

Well, he'll fill out the courier slip himself and that's where they'll deliver the visa. So it shouldn't matter at all from this point on. :thumbs:

Does the passport holder have to sign for it, or will anyone do?

FYI Nealandcari,

There is an explanation for your emails being deleted without being read. You have to call the embassy first to get the proper "code" to put in the subject line of your emails, or else they will just get deleted. Just so ya know:)
