Average time for Vancouver to send out packet on K-1 once they rec info from NVC?

Hi, I am wondering how long did it take for the Vancouver US Consulate to mail out the packet of info the fiancee (on a K-1 Visa) has to fill out & mail back in like the Ds-230, 156 etc, once Vancouver receives the file from the NVC?

Can I expect 2 or 3 days, 1,2,3 weeks?

Second question... once they mail the packet out and she sends all documents back how long did it take for them to inform your fiancee of when her scheduled interview will take place?

We will request the interview date, "first available" but from reading other posts I know this could be from 1 month to 4 months before she gets the interview itself. Is this accurate?

I already posted on BritExpats but no response, i think this board gets much more traffic.

April 3, 2006 >> Received call from Vancouver US Consulate informing me that my fiancee needed to fax them a copy of her Canadian work permit, our case #, current address and phone #. Fiancee faxed requested documents that same day.

April 20, 2006 >> Packet 3 rec'd from Vancouver US Consulate.

April 24, 2006 >> Fiance' faxed DS-230 to Vancouver US Consulate

April 24, 2006 >> I scheduled medical examination for my fiance' for May 1, 2006 $220 Canadian.

Hi check out my timeline and it will answer your questions. You have to go for your medical first, before you send your pkg back. They were super nice there btw, but make sure you follow the instructions to the t...Good luck

Biometrics done on Apr 21, at St. Paul office..wait some more......

email aproval for AP on May 1

email approval for EAD on May 3

received AP on May 3

received EAD in mail on May 8

start work of June 1

AOS interview in Bloomington on July 19 8am

AOS approved,passport stamped on July 19

as of Dec 10, 2006 still no greencard....waiting and waiting....USCIS says we are approved, and check back in 60 days...no idea what is happening

Dec 18, email stating welcome letter is in the mail

Dec 20, 5 emails saying they ordered production of my new card......

Dec 24...welcome to America letter in the snail mail

Dec 26...GC in hand and all is correct...

NOTE TO SELF..file to lift conditions 04/19/08

04/22/08 filed to lift conditions

05/01/08 package returned wrong form

05/05/08 re-submitted right form to california

05/09/08 cheque cashed

05/13/08 NOA

05/19/08 appointment letter for biometrics received..appointment on 05/28/08 at 11 am at USCIS St. Paul

05/28/08 took my two appointment letters and had my fingerprints done

11/13/08 touched and email stating card production ordered and will be sent to me in 30 days

11/21/08 GC in hand no mistakes expires 11/13/18

If you include your email address with your checklist when you fax it in... you may get a response quicker out of them on an interview date.

We had requested march 23rd... we got April 10th, just to give you an idea.

But definitely schedule your medical whenever you can... it can be a wait sometimes.

Excellent! Thank you very much for all the replies! We have everything lined up for packet 3 but can't do anything until her new work permit arrives, which is expected about Apr,1,2,3 ish. I say we can't do anything, more accurately... Vancouver won't do anything until we have it in hand.

Is this true? I'd always heard that the medical could be scheduled any time before the interview. Does Vancouver differ in this regard?

Conditions Removed! Ten-year green card received 6/24/2009. No more USCIS for a very long time.

I just had my medical exam in Vancouver. All that I needed was my case #, my passport, 3 photos, and money to pay them. That was it.

Maybe things are different because I am a Canadian citizen, but I would check just in case. It took me a while to get my doctor's appointment.

My interview is booked for April 24th. I faxed back my information on the 15th of March. First they booked me April 18 as I asked for the first available appointment, and then I changed it to the 24th of April so that my fiance could come with me.

Maybe I'm chicken, but I feel better knowing that he'll be there for the interview.

Now I am confused. I was told I just needed packet 3 and then could have my medical. I was under the impression I could send it back before actually having the medical.

*January 24 2006 - mailed in I129-F petition

*January 25 2006 - I129-F received at CSC

*January 30 2006 - packet returned.....arggggggggg we forgot one signature!!

*January 31 2006 - sent I129-F back to the CSC, hope we did not forget anything else

*February 1 2006 - I129-F received at CSC again

Does the Consulate give the fiancee a list of places she can take her medical exam or can she just go to any doctor?

She's in Edmonton and will interview at Vancouver. Does she have to have the medical in Vancouver too?

there is a list of Doctors. One can ONLY go to one on the list! There is one in Edmonton she can go to!! Bets to phone that doctor and see what they require. Some DR's require the interview letter some do not. Some get back the results in 1 or 2 days, some take awhile!! Phone ahead, state you require it for a USA K1 visa and they can inform you. Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
