I want to start working on gathering the documents in preparation for receiving the NOA., I am the sponsor and my fiance (Beneficiary) is a Romanian Citizen living in Rome, Italy. Are tax returns always needed or only in the case of self employment? I have been employed by large corporate employers for the last 5+ years and can show over the required amount of income on my most recent W2s, and with my most current Offer Letter, and current paystubs. My full tax returns (other than the most recent) were filed jointly (when I was married previously) and will be difficult to obtain. I believe my assets (less debts) can also cover the requirement and will be sending my bank, investment, and retirement account statements. Has anyone experienced any issues if not sending full tax returns, and not self employed?

Also, is a list of documentation required outlined when the NOA2 is received or is there a place to find this information?

Thank you!

You can easily obtain previous tax transcripts from the IRS.

Thank you - the 2017 return isn't an issue, I have a copy of that one. I tried the transcripts for earlier filings, however, I am having difficulty obtaining them that way as well. If only the 2017 1040 is needed, there is no problem. Thanks again!

You need the 2017 tax transcript or entire tax return.  Just the 1040 won't suffice.

You will, however, need the numbers off the previous returns.  You also can go into any IRS office and get the tax transcripts.  It may take a few hours of waiting, like the dmv.
