Hello All,

I initially met my fiance when he hired me as a developer from Upwork (freelancing website) and we started working remotely. Do we mention that on the declaration? And should we still prove that Upwork is not IMBRA? since it clearly says that we met due to work?

Thanks.

you state how you met and can include Upworks TOS to confirm it's not a marriage broker.

I would state how you actually met in person. Keep it short and sweet and contained on the I-129 form and don't use a supplemental page.

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

Oh I see. Because I see a lot of people adding supplemental page. haha, now I am really confuse.

Most people want to write a love story.

Keep it short and sweet and just the facts.  I put something like" I was in Phillipines from xxx to xxx and met (Jane Doe) at Davao Airport.

Thanks! we've met several times and i've been to the US. do you think thats worth mentioning too? and that for sure wouldn't fit with the space provided in the i-129f.

Not worth it for the petition.  Concentrate on evidence of meeting face to face.

YMMV

I'm facinated with how people interpret this question differently, but there doesn't seem to be a firm answer as to which is the correct way.

I interpret this question based on the "how to" guide to fill out the Petition - which is: describe the circumstance of how you have been in the same place physically within the last 2 years - it proves you are eligible for the I-129F to be approved as a condition of that is being together phyiscally in the last 2 years.

Many interpret it as "how did you meet/start dating" which to me doesn't even come into it at petition stage. They want to know that you meet the LEGAL requirements for the approval, then it's up to the CO at the Embassy to decide if you meet the "genuine" requirements for the K-1 to be issued.

thanks a lot. this is helpful. there are indeed a lot of opinions about it. I will just follow the instructions on how to fill out the i-129f form.

You can explain how you initially "met" online through work online and then how you developed the relationship and when and how you met in person. Always keeping it as simple and "short" possible. They don't need the whole story with all the details.

My declaration of how we met was not longer than 5 or 6 sentences. We told them we met online at .... On specific date and from there we continued to talk online, etc and then after 2 years of being in contact we decided to meet (when, location, etc) # times. Something like that we wrote so they could have an idea of our story. Just do not write the story of your life, clear and simple.

Good luck in this K1 journey!
