Am I able to begin filling out the DI-134 as soon as I have received notification that the I-129 has been received? I have a question about the information about the life insurance. What is meant by the "cash surrender value" of my life insurance policies?

  1. You can start filling it out, but it won't be needed for about 8-10 months or so. The information may change by then, and any supporting documentation of income will need to be updated by then anyway.
  2. That section (assets) is only needed if your income is insufficient and you are using assets to qualify.
  3. It means the cash value if you were to surrender (terminate) your insurance policy. This typically applies for Whole Life or similar policies, although this topic (life insurance) is pretty broad and I don't want to misspeak.
    1. Note that it's not the premium or benefit value, if that's what you were thinking.

If you are not using that asset to meet the requirements, then it doesn't need to be filled in.
