UPS is notorious for bad service and stupid moves. Especially during the holidays, when they have a lot of temporary staff, all of who generally care even less about you getting your deliveries than the normal staff.

One story of mine... I was expecting an important delivery last year to my apartment (yes, I had the exact address and apartment number on the order) and the first time, they "claimed" to have attempted delivery, there wasn't so much as a knock on the door. I was most definitely home at the time they said they tried delivering the package. For the second delivery attempt, UPS said they were arriving at around 6:30pm. Okay, I figured that was fine; I'd be home by then. They came by and apparently tried to deliver the package at 10:00am. So much for trusting anything they say! Finally, I got the package on the third and final delivery attempt.

Probably the only thing that saved the package from being stolen was that it required a signature from someone 21 years of age or older, so they couldn't just leave it at the door.

I know in Canada that UPS is no better either. My fiancee has had things delivered by UPS and while they do enter her apartment building, they merely leave the package at the door. Sometimes they knock and sometimes they don't. She won't order anything if it gets delivered by UPS now. That limits her options, but considering how terrible the service is from UPS, it might just be worth it.

I ordered a bunch of equipment...$400 microwave, $600 espresso maker, $300 panini press, $2500 oven for my cafe and the fedex guy left it all on my front porch. Didn't knock. I live on a main road. Anyone driving by could have just stopped and took it if they had a big enough car. I couldn't even open the front door! I had to go out the back door and move everything to bring it inside. So it's not just UPS. Fedex let me down too!

Dear UPS,

I live in an apartment building on the fifth floor. I was home all day yesterday writing. You came to deliver a package. Containing jewelry for my bridesmaids.

What on earth made you think it was appropriate to leave the package in the front door to the building and not even bother to buzz up to my apartment or the super's? The only reason I know that anything was "delivered" is due to checking the delivery status online!

Grrrrr. May your brown short pants bleach in the wash.

Our USPS mail person just leaves my packages in the lobby if it's too big for the mail box. Thank God we check the mail everyday so I see it. Darn.

I'm sure you'll hear LOTS of UPS stories here. I've had a few "experiences" myself. I googled UPS complaints one time and it seems they have problems internationally. I had a problem with them once, phoned them, wrote them twice...never heard a word from them. I vow never to use them again. If there are alternatives, use them. Maybe one day they'll get the message!
