CR1 ADVICE NEEDED: Do I really need to go back to China to get my birth certificate reissued to the standard 5-page one?

Hi everyone, 

 

My husband and I are at the NVC stage in our CR1 visa process. Our lawyer has informed us that I will need to present a 5-page birth certificate from China because I was born there. I am currently a Canadian citizen living in Canada. The issue is that because I was born before 1995, I do not have the standardized 5 page birth certificate that China decided to issue after 1995. Going back to China to reissue the standardized birth certificate is quite a hassle and I'm not even sure I can really do it...

 

Has anyone been in a similar situation? This has really been the bane of my existence and I really don't want any delays on our DS-260 just because I don't have the right version of the birth certificate they're looking for...

 

Should I be concerned about this at all or is my current birth certificate sufficient as is for immigration? Would really appreciate any comments/feedback/stories on this! Thank you!!!

Hey there! I was born in China before 1995 and a Canadian citizen as well   I don't know what a 5 page birth certificate is... I had to get a certified copy of birth certificate (公证书 hope you can read Chinese haha) from local police station in Beijing. My parents go back and forth; so that made it very easy for me to get a copy from China. I'm not familiar with your immigration category; but I recommend that you get a few copies in case you need to use it again in the future. Good luck!
