Hey guys,

my wife is jobless and she has no income, surely she will need a joint sponsor.

But we both live abroad and I have a good income and been saving money for years, and we don't have a joint sponsor. my question is can we use my money savings as a proof of financial support so that we won't need a joint sponsor ?

another question, what does number of household mean for poverty guideline ? I mean we're 3 me and my wife and our son and they are both a US citizen , are we considered 3 household or just 1 as I'm not the Us citizen ?

thanks :)

You can't be your own sponsor. Your wife needs to show her assets or get a co-sponsor.

I believe answer is 3.. since you have 3 people that are going to live together.

Some other people say otherwise, they say I Can but will be 3x125% of poverty line. I'm still not sure though

How will she be addressing domicile?

She  can use savings.

One immigrant family of 3.

Domicile is another matter she is working on at the moment, for the savings how can we use them?

"One immigrant family of 3" , sorry but I don't think I get your point ? you mean 3X125% ?

It is not 375% but whatever it is for 3.

Are they in a US Bank Account? She should show her statement and if an issue that they can be easily transferred.

Has she been filing her taxes?

it's in local bank where we live now, but soon she will open a bank account and we will transfer an amount of money.

she hasn't been filing taxes because she wasn't required to, she's 20 and still a student in college.

what if they asked where that money came from ?

thank you

Yes but really NO.  The intending immigrant's liquid assets CAN be used.  So if the liquid assets are (for a household of 3) over about $120,000 US and can be documented well, then no joint sponsor would be needed.  It helps if the assets are in a US bank but it's not an actual requirement.

Start by becoming an A-Student of the I-864 instructions, particularly the part that explains EXACTLY how to use the intending immigrant's assets to qualify.  If they ask where it came from, it's your savings.  As her spouse and the intending immigrant, the assets need not be in her name.  They are YOUR assets.  No problem.  If you could open a US Dollar account with a US bank like Citibank etc. there in Saudi Arabia, that could help but you'll need to show past statements indicating you've had most or all that money for at a year or so.  You have, so getting bank statements to show that, is not a problem.

Thank you pushbrk for your info it's really helpful.

I don't think my savings would be helpful, as you mentioned 120,000$ , what I have in my bank account is less than this number. so I will have to find a joint sponsor that I've been trying to find for months but no result .

Another option when she graduates is to go first get a job, domicile etc and then she will have the income to sponsor you.

She needs to show the income for the Interview, not a whole  year, so maybe 3 months to get settled get a job and some pay stubs.
