Hi all,

I've been doing a bit of research on the forums regarding potential issues at/after the K1 interview in Montreal if you are not Canadian born/not a Canadian citizen. A bit of background information, I was born in Ukraine, lived in Russia, but moved to Canada years ago and have since gotten my Canadian PR. Just wondering if anyone had any experience/heard of people having issues at the embassy, or needing any additional documentation. I am very weary of being stuck for months in AP just because I didn't bring extra paperwork with me to the interview...and would like to do anything I can to avoid delays, this process has been SO LONG as it is.

I read that bringing your resume and transcript from university/college might be a good idea. Thoughts??

As long as you have your police certs and everything translated you should be fine.  The Ukraine is not a high fraud country.   Generally speaking, Pakistani, Indian, China, and MENA country people tend to have the most issues as PR.

Thanks! i've read some crazy stories that people were asked to send in resume, university transcripts and what not, so I got worried. :(

Depends on your degree.

Have your Canadian landing form ready just to be safe. This is the one-pager that was attached to your country-of-origin passport and has info on the type of immigration (Family Class, etc) you went through and the date you landed in Canada. Bring your PR card and a photocopy of this as well for the interview. Better to be ready. Hope this helps.

Oh, yeah that's actually a great idea. Thank you!

No problem. Good luck on your upcoming interview and please share how it goes. I would have my resume and school transcripts ready and a letter from the company I’m working with currently, just in case they ask at the interview. These are docs that you can easily obtain or you may already have, so it won’t hurt if they don’t ask for it at the interview. Cheers!

Yeah, after reading a few other posts on here I think I'm going to do exactly that, in hopes that if they see me be extra prepared, things will go smoothly.. I will definitely post after the interview to share my experience.

Can you please share such links?

These were all just threads on this forum of people sharing their experiences from their K1 interviews. I don't have the links saved but if you search for them, I'm sure you will find the posts yourself.

If you work in biology, pharmaceuticals, physics, nuclear, space, technology... expect to be asked for a resume, regardless of where you are from.

If you're from Pakistan, expect extra forms, as there are no police certificates from Pakistan.

Just thought I would share my experience, since I just had my interview on the 25th. The only paperwork they wanted was anything to prove my current status in Canada, i.e. my PR card and the landing paper, as you suggested. I had my resume/reference letter from work/university transcripts, but they didn't ask for any of those. In hindsight, I was definitely overprepared, but who cares. I passed! :)

I am so glad you are approved! congratulations!

Would you mind sharing what level of university education you have completed and your field of work?

I am trying to research things more before my turn for the interview comes. I am seeing that folks asked for their Resumes tend to get stuck in APs, curious to know if you were from STEM field as well.

I hope you and your fiance have a wonderful wedding and a great married life together!

Thanks!

Thanks so much!! It is very exciting!

And yeah, sure. I went to university here in Canada and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. So you can say I was lucky in the sense that it's a less "exciting" degree and that is likely why I wasn't asked for anything other than the standard stuff.

Good luck to you in your process, fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly! :)
