Definetly air bnb Any Airbnb downtown montreal will be walking distance.

I stayed downtown at the luxury (tour de canadian) condo connected to the NHL arena ...It wasnt cheap but it was cheaper than hotels and had a pool and game area so it was fun and clean I would definetly recommend it (there is a grocery store across the street, restaurant and McDonalds) and the condo has a kitchen, wifi and TV! Depends what you're looking for and how long you're going to stay. I did have to walk maybe half hour but it was a nice fun walk considering montreal is beautiful! And I'm sure the weather will be nice :)

I AirBnB'd it and had never done that before. I had stayed in Montreal for 11 days as I flew in Feb and did not want to risk the weather and also scheduled my medical before the interview.

I was not sure how it would all unfold but I have to say I enjoyed staying in an apartment more than I expected. My 5 year old son enjoyed it so much he had an absolute fit when it was time to leave. The apartment was cozy and had a kitchenette. I picked up things like milk and took home leftovers from supper that could be microwaved and eaten later. It drove down the overall cost. I couldn't believe how pedestrian friendly the city was.

My AirBnB was close to the medical but not so close to the Consulate. I wound up Ubering it for less than $10. It was blistering cold that morning and did not want to be late. There is also a subway system too and underground tunnels. I loved the little malls where you could eat as it made the trip more affordable. Having to fly from West to East made the trip pricey and then adding on a week and a half stay.

Would anyone care to provide the link to the AirBnB that they have stayed at in Montreal in the past?

This would be my first time booking and I am absolutely terrified that I'm going to get screwed over (ie last minute cancellations).

I stayed at the Marriot in the link above. Not as cheap as an air bnb would be, but I was also nervous about a last minute cancellation or something happening! It was literally a 2 minute walk to the consulate (right around the corner) and had parking available onsite for an extra fee.

There are TONS of other hotels in that area of Montreal as well, if you are feeling nervous about airbnb! And I'm sure there is a wide variety price wise.

We used AirBnB as well. As my wife was from Alberta we made a 10 day trip out of it and did the medical examination and then the interview a week later. The place we stayed in was very affordable and not too far from where we needed to go (about a 15-20 minute drive to downtown Montreal). I had my own car as well (I drove 650 miles from Ohio). There's lots of sightseeing to do there so we had a very good time.

We stayed here.

I came from AB as well and made sure I was walking distance.  Downtown Montreal is pretty much okay with English but much of Montreal is not.  I bought a week long bus and subway pass too.  Cabs are crazy expensive.
