ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S MOTHER:  "Again with the stovepipe hat?  Can't you just wear a baseball cap like the other kids?"

Update on the never-ending kitchen-reno saga, sigh man...

 

Appliance Hondureño + buddy showed up and placed the electric cooktop, in place man.

However, they couldn't hook it up because of a storm + power-outage, timing bad man.

Nor could he go to the r-casa to install the warshdisher, no man.

Plumbing Salvadoreño couldn't appear because of the rain, have everything but the kitchen sink still man.

 

However, fridge is back in place, re-fridged we man.

 

Moved cat's bowls back into kitchen, near but not in exact old place man.

Cat objected strongly, wouldn't eat soft glop till we pushed her nose into it man.

Cat also barfed in our office right where our chair rolls, smashed into carpet man.

 

None of this might never not end, no man.

During this past week, we have taken the on-line Texas Defensive Driving course, get insurance discount man.

Quite interesting in its differences from in-person classroom instruction, self-paced vs. one-day torture man.

We scored Many% on the final exam, rivaling Nola-B.'s academic excellence we man.

 

Of course, the chief if not only goal is to avoid paying full retail price on anything, T-B.-mobile insurance included man.

Oh -- Mrs. T-B. made some tater tots in her new oven and says that it's mighty fine, appreciate she man.

This was the fancy Whirlpool that we proficiently got at Lowe's for nearly half-price, modestly mention we man.

I bet, Denmark has an amazing quality of life from what I've heard. That's crazy that your life doesn't improve because your income rises! but the opposite, since your insurance is at risk. I've never understood why the U.S doesn't have universal healthcare as most developed countries do. Even Mexico's IMSS is a form of universal, very cheap Mexican health care that's easy to get affiliated to by paying like 50 bucks a month, and most jobs include it as part of the benefits.

Friendly self-reminder: do not engage in online fighting, it leads to nothing and you can't impart wisdom or change other people's minds. Repeat: do not engage. 

 

I've always felt that Mexico could be amazing. It has it all to be a first world country: the resources, the land, the location.  It also has, unfortunately, one other thing: Mexicans.

That defeatist and '' we won't change a thing'' mentality screws us. I don't know if it's in our DNA since we were conquered, that our government is so deeply corrupted that we genuinely believe there's no way out, but it's always the same way: we either complain and take the victim role, or we succumb and fool ourselves into believing ''it is what it is and things could we worse'' most Mexicans I talk to tends to feel this way, and immigrants are no different. 

 I know we won't magically change things, but we can at least go down with a fight. Join a cause, influence our communities, do better. Anything but saying ''oh well what difference will it make?'' and just taking it. I feel so guilty I'm moving away, but unfortunately, we tend to get a bigger platform once we're outside. 

 

Anyway. Almost two months after approval, still hoping this will be the month we get an interview assigned even if it's at the end of July, but not holding my breath.

I had the same experience in Miami, but with Cubans.

Austin is way more ''white'' than other cities closer to the border, I noticed. 

If only I can start my life with my husband instead of having to wait many, MANY more months. sigh.

Rant of the moment and maybe the next 10 years:

 

Mom promised me she'd pay off my remaining student loans when I finished. I've already paid off 30-40k of them.

 

That isn't looking likely with how much she is complaining about her retirement paycut.

 

She thinks that I have any interest in setting up stuff her new house, when pretty much any free time I have is spent making less than minimum wage so that I can pay off my student loans...and that will be the case for YEARS.  Sorry, I don't give a fudge about setting up your patio set when you aren't going to be here for months, I have other stuff to do, and you had something on a pallet delivered to my house that practically boxed my car in.

 

I wouldn't have even had to take out those student loans save her interest playing grandma.  I could have, you know, worked to pay for school and my living expenses.

 

I'm not in the mood for this today.
