Mailed a birthday card to a buddy today, a few days after his birthday man.

Those are fooks and mainlanders. 

 

The Brits standardized the spelling of each Chinese character in the 1800s so that there is a .....standard. 

 

In Zhang, Cheng, Chang, Cheung, Xiang, can all  be the same chinese character. 

In the Standardized version, Cheung is the ONLY spelling for that character. 

 

Likewise when you see the names Lee or Wong, it's a standardized name. But not Li, Lie, Huang, Wang, Weng, etc....

 

So one can tell of a Chinese person's origin from spelling.
