Hi everyone, i filed I-130 for my spouse on Oct 27, 2017 when i was LPR and once i became USC on April 18 this year, i sent paperwork to California service center to upgrade my petition. I received confirmation on April 25th that petition was upgraded. Also received email with below message.

We have updated your relative petition to reflect that you are now a U.S. citizen. As a result, your petition has moved to a new visa category for an immediate relative of a U.S. citizen. This category does not have numerical restrictions, and a visa is immediately available from the U.S. Department of State.

Your case will be placed in line for processing and you should receive a notice of action* within five months.

My question is, it has been 6 months since petition was filed, is this going to take another 5 months ? anyone had any experience with it. I would appreciate if you could share your experience.

Also if everything goes as it should,  what would be the reasonable time frame i should expect my spouse to be here ? May be around Dec this year ?

Thank you,

Nobody can tell you how long it will take.  Usually, the difference in timeline between an LPR case and  USC spouse case is at the NVC stage, not the petition approval stage.  Your petition is likely to take as long as any other I-130 for a spouse at your service center takes.

I'm telling you that your "upgrade" will have no impact on the USCIS part of your process.

So whats going on with your case?

I have my interview next month and will be upgrading my spouses petition

But based on what I have been told, your PD stays current so since you arelady finished 6 months in Q you should be technically approved sooner.

What the poster sayes applies, but Since CSC mostly does Family preference category which has a NVC wait as it is, they will just push back those cases and start wokring on yours immediately and get it out of the way so that its out of their area of responsibility
