Greetings Fellow Vj's , I just received MNL case number and will be scheduling an interview very soon. A situation i have concern is regarding income requirement. I have not filled any tax return yet because I am in the process of getting my college degree. However, i do have current income that is above 125 percent. Will we be denied for not being able to show previous tax returns? Is current income strong evidence or stronger evidence than 2017 tax return? What are our options and can we be successful regarding our situation?

Thank you.

Current income is what they will consider and you meet or exceed so no need to worry. Most likely they will not ask for the financials but better to be prepared with them. Good luck.

You have to pay back your taxes then. They ask for last 3 years of tax returns.

Huh?  Is your answer specific to Manila or just a general response?

Don't have to pay back taxes if you did not have sufficient income to file.

YMMV

If you did not have any taxable income, of course not.

Wrong wrong wrong. They only ask for the most current year that you filed. So only tax year 2017 is required at USEM. The OP was in school and now income was earned so there would be no taxes to file. Zero income Zero taxes.

Thank you.

If you have not filed taxes because your income is below the required amount, the embassy could ask for an evidence regarding this.   https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/do-i-need-to-file-a-tax-return

If you past income has always been too low but you now have adequate income  you will want an employer letter stating your job and annual income.  Plus it would be good to have copies of your pay statements.

With all of this said don't be surprised if the embassy does not ask for support evidence.  Just the same DO be prepared.

Thank you for your reply Hank. What kind of evidence would be needed  to show why I did not file taxes? An explanation letter?

Yes a letter may be good, state you have been full time in college or whatever your situation was.  There was/is a form that the IRS has for computing income to show income does not require filing, but dang if I can find it right now.
