Hello everyone !

Me and my new wife from Philippines are ready to get her child . We have heard about a follow to join.We tried to get her sister on a b-2 visa to help him get here but she was denied. He has received his k-2 visa and travel clearance from DSWD. Neither of us have experience with minors flying alone especially internationally. It is my understanding most airlines after the age of 12 (he is 13) are permitted to fly alone. We tried asiana but they keep requesting that the person who uses a credit card matches the person flying. I'm not sure how they expect a 13 year old to buy a ticket with there name on a credit card ?? Yet they allow unaccompanied  minors and a program called family assistance for a fee to help them thorough the airport process at terminals and immigration. Also when my wife left under her k-1 visa she was requested to pay a "tax" before she left. Will her child be expected to do the same? Can anyone shed some light on this. It would help a lot :)

My child flies to and from Canada several times a year.  I fork over an extra $300 ($150 each way) for unaccompanied minor.  They are supposed to pay attention to the child, change seats as necessary, make sure the appropriate parties (as previously allocated) are picking up and dropping off, and help children through security and immigration.

When I started using this program years ago the airline I normally use had their UA to age 11 and under.  I had to call to pay for the fee because I do not believe a 12 year old should be wandering airports alone.  Now my kid is almost 16 and I still worry, but far less.   If you can do this with the airline, then do it.  As this will be a one way flight, the fee won't be too large.  Keep in mind you generally have to book the least stops possible and also generally not the last flight of the day.

As for the tax issues, I'm not sure, I do understand this is posted in a regionally specific forum.

To cover the ticket issue,  simply go to the Asiana ticket counter to have your CC verified, or contact them by phone to see if you can fax a copy of your CC & DL to them for them to verify for your step-son's airfare.     You could also email him a copy of your CC and DL if you felt comfortable doing that.

There are two fees when leaving the Philippines. 1) airport fee fo P750 which is included in the airfare when flying from NAIA.  2) Travel Tax of P1620 which can be paid online or at the airport (there is a counter at the front of NAIA )    This both need to be paid irregardless.
