I got my card exactly a week after my interview but it can vary. I also had a trip booked about 2 weeks from the interview.

If you get approved before the trip then you can get your passport stamped through an infopass appointment. That stamp will allow you to prove your PR status.

What I did was pre-schedule an infopass a week from the interview in case the card wasn't gonna come in time.

Thanks! Very useful info!

I know we all are impatiently waiting but I’m not sure if it’s justified to get angry on later filers lol. Although it is true that they go by the priority date, there are two other things that are crucial based on my understanding as well as what one of the level 1 support staff told me: one major factor in all of this is that they look at your country of origin and/or where your passport is from as well as your local office and how busy it is. So currently, the most scrutinized nations are in the following order:

1) Mexico

2) China

3) India

These are obviously due to the high immigration numbers from these nations so we can expect delays is what they say. But that’s just my understanding so we don’t know what happens behind the scenes.

My PD is May 24.

I did AOS from F-1 student visa, not K-1.

Don't get me wrong... Im not mad at any later filers or filers...my disappointment is towards USCIS... Im very happy at all filers! specially at ones that already got a response.

Hi! I am in the East Bay too. I went for the written test in Pittsburg, and did behind-the-wheel in Walnut Creek. I just brought my passport, I-797C receipt and a utility bill that showed my current address. I am only eligible for a temporary one and they need me to send proof of legal presence (like a green card or EAD) in order to receive my full driving license. Alternatively, ask them about AB60 which allows "undocumented" residents to get a d/license.

Good luck!

I have no personal experience, but a friend of mine traveled to Asia last month with her (American) kids on her AP. She went and came back OK (although she did have to go through secondary inspection which took another 2 hours).

I went to DMV today and got a negative answer coz my I-94 was expired, the manager from the back desk told me they can’t accept my applicantion unless i extend my I-94, and they only cares of two documents which is passport and I-94, the rest of the docs like 797C for I-485 or marrige certificate even SSN card is not their concern...  and she wouldn’ suggest me to go through secondary for AB60 license since the wait time is about half to a year, by that time I might probably get my EAD.

My question is K1 can’t extend the expiation date and only admitted for around 90days, the valid duration dosen’t make any sense for getting a DL or ID at all ! since most of us can’t get EAD within 4 months, what are we gonna do for all these months? That’s obviously an unreasonable loophole, just a saying! Anyway make no sense to whine about it since it can’t be improve.

I got nagative answer from dmv today also they told me better not to go through secondary at this time since I’m half way there for EAD, but I wish your husband get his soon, good luck!

In a previous post you mentioned that you have your EAD, that should be sufficient enough to apply for a d/L? Which DMV did you go to? Maybe try a different one?

Edit: Sorry I misread, you have your NOA it seems, not the actual EAD. I was able to do my written test at Pittsburg DMV - doesn't hurt to try there? This wait really sucks. I just really want to get a full resident ID/DL and I can't without showing legal presence. Ugh this wait is killing me!!

I’m finally ready to share our AOS interview experience on July 26th in Baltimore, Maryland

Timeline : NOA1 - May 3d, Biometrics -June 4th, AOS interview - July 26th

So my husband (US citizen) and I ( applicant) gathered all the needed documents from the list sent by USCIS. ( we got letter with interview date one month ahead) Our appointment was on July 26th at 4:00 p.m ( which is the time when office closes). We came there earlier , registered at 3:30 and started waiting ( advice here: if you have appointment closer to the end of the working day- DONT be late, they won’t let you in) . At about 4:15 officer called me by name , my husband and I headed to the door and here a very weird thing happened: she said: “ I need only Maria( applicant)  for this, you ( husband) can stay here, in the waiting room “

That is what made us VERY confused, as we’d never read anything like this before .

After those words, I went with the officer to the interview room and was told that I’ll be videotaped and that the reason why she hadn’t called my husband is  that I’m the applicant for this form and she needs only me to answer the questions. The interview itself went as I expected except for the first few questions :

  • if I had my original I-129f form( which I obviously didn’t have, because it was in the sealed envelope which I had given to the officer at POE ) . This made me confused but later we figured it out
  • If I had my EAD ( which I didn’t have too, and I thought they knew it)

Then questions were basic: she went through all I485 form, checked literally every question there, including what my Social Security was , when we got married, where , what are our DOB, where I lived before , etc. There is no need to go further, as I was asked every question in the form. Then she headed to the section with YES/NO questions ( it was the longest part of the interview). Finally she asked if I wanted to add anything that can help , I gave her our BGE papers , joint bank statement , insurance papers , a few photos from different occasions , and a letter/invitation to the wedding from our friends ( with both our names and address ). Then she said it would be enough

P.S when she was going through the form she made a few corrections there and in the end I signed that I confirm all the corrections mentioned . She also wrote down some of my answers in details ( like

If We want kids in future, what are our plans for the coming 10 years , etc.)

In conclusion , she gave me a standard paper , which says that “ your case is being held for review”). I asked if our case seems fine to her. She said she can’t make any decision yet and we should wait for updates online. That was it , after the interview , in like 30 minutes , our case updated to “interview was completed and your case must be reviewed “ , since then no updates yet... today is August 8th . Still waiting !

P.S we tried to find similar cases , where only applicant was questioned, and we did find some people with the same situation , but rare cases.

We hope this review helps . Good luck to all of you, guys:) any questions are welcomed

Just adding some updates to my story

Finally we got the best news on our case! Our AOS status changed to "Card is Being Produced" on September 6th ( 43 days after the interview)! On September 10th I-131 and I-765 statuses changed to "Case closed Benefit received by other means". Since then didn't have any updates about GC being mailed until today September 14th when I finally opened our mailbox and found this desired red envelope ! (no updates anywhere even now)

Wish everybody the best of luck with your cases:) Don't give up!
